Perhaps a little silly
Ordered the xxxl from the same brand. They're limited on colors and patterns this size so we went with plain red. Fits like a glove and only 12 bucks.

Devastated
Eek! That's a lot. I one time had tried to book an appointment for Ty as a puppy because the groomer had a reputation for working well with chows but she was full and when they told me the price it said nevermind! It's different because you show, but I just learned to do everything myself and take h...

Puzzle toys
Pinoy, I buy puzzle toys when I see them on sale at the pet stores like pet valu or pet smart (haven't really seen them at petco) but they are kind of expensive. Treat dispensers are good puzzles too, which is what I got this time around. They're funny shaped with funny shaped holes so they don't ju...

Puzzle toys
Ever since Ty was a puppy, I've played search and find games; he's always enjoyed them. We've tested and brought home some puzzle toys which to my glee he figured out much quicker than his BFF lab partner in crime Emily. I recently brought home two treat dispensers that are definitely challenging an...

Re: Devastated
While chows do look like lions and bears (oh my!) the infamous lioncut involves shaving the chow down everywhere except the head, sometimes the feet, and a tuft of fur on the tail. Apparently my husband's uncle used to have this done to their chow (my husband's family ended up with later) every summ...

Potty training advice
It seems like many puppies have a way of expressing the need to go. Whether it be the sniffing around or giving their own signal. Ty would walk over by the door and do a little jump. Or in the evening he would bark and tug on my clothing acting like it was play time but really, he had to go. Pay att...

Re: Perhaps a little silly
I love the arguile! I measured Ty's chest and he's about 36" (I promise he's pretty trim! He's just a big boy) so I'm going to have to look for something a little bigger. Amazon had solid versions of his coat one size more that would fit better for 12 bucks or so. They only carry that s...

Re: Perhaps a little silly
Wow that's nice Peterbilt!Though my husband may pitch a fit if I spent 75 on a dog raincoat. I'm definitely going to have to measure his chest this time, especially if I order online.
It would at least save me a lot of time. I will definitely keep that one in mind!

Re: Perhaps a little silly
I've definitely thought about it. My concern is that the fabric may be a little tricky. It's just a poncho. Though the other thought is, Joann's has raincoat material, the pattern is fairly simple. It's kinda time and convenience at this point. If it comes down to it, then when summer break starts a...

Perhaps a little silly
But I was wondering if anyone had any good recommendation for raincoats for their chows? I say silly because I'm not one to put clothes on animals, but when we have a down pour, if I could keep most of him dry, that'd be great. I have one I bought from Pet Valu about two years back when Ty was mostl...

Re: Chows and cats
Mine get along just fine. Every once in a while Ty will give chase, and depending on which cat gets chased depends on whether Ty gets put in his place. Indy, my female cat will weave in and out from under or between Ty and his legs. Tulio my male cat isn't worried about Ty and will share floor or be...

Re: anyone with cream chow?
Doppler, it does really depend on the light. He's got plenty of red in him, but his undercoat is cream. His lineage is made up of cinnamons, creams, and light red chows so he's a pretty interesting color. Definitely less cream in the summer when there's less undercoat lol

I wasn't sure where you went Siriol. I went to tag you in a link with images of a red and black chow chow in the snow (reminded me of either Titus and Izzi or Bramble and Izzie)and you were no where to be found! I hope you find wellness and you don't lose another tv in the process (though I confesse...

Re: anyone with cream chow?
Tiberius is a fawn or cream? He spends a lot of time playing with his friends outdoors when he can so he gets lots of dirt and creek water on him. He is also an English rough, ( I believe I was taught that here lol and I'm using it correctly?) where he doesn't have the long silky fur like some chows...

Re: Sushi will not stop biting!
Very familiar territory. Ty was a very persistent nipper. It took a couple of the tricks already mentioned, but I think what did it was the time outs. I put him in another room ,gated, where he could hear me but not see me. He hated not being able to be with me. It was a very quick thing too. Bite, ...

Re: Does Anyone Let Their Chow Walk Without a Leash?
Hmmm...the old off leash question. Yes and no. Let me explain. When we go hiking with our friends who have dogs who are more accustomed to being off leash and coming when called I have Tiberius on a long lead I let drag so that I can grab him easily if need be. He does well though and frequently sto...

Out in Public
Now, I know we've had many posts regarding "Does your chow do this?" and etc. But I've got a new one I've picked up on, on our recent outings and it's a bit peculiar. Let me start by saying this typically occurs when we're down town. Each month, our "city" hosts a first Saturday ...

Re: Where have the others gone
I know my being on here comes and goes now that Ty is turning 3 in two weeks, but this place was SUPER helpful when I first got him as a pup. I've made some friends on here too, some getting to meet in real life and others I've kept up with on Facebook which I frequent more in every day life. It's b...
