Re: New owner of 2 gorgeous 1.4 YO chow/rott mixes
You have a great looking pair of girls & it sounds like you are handling their integration well. The only thing I would say is that, having adopted a 1 year old skittish full chow from a shelter, it took several months for him to really relax in his new home. He is still skittish (2 years later)...

Re: Chronic Hot Spots
Poor baby! I think it would be well worth it to have allergy testing done to get to the root of the problem. So hard to see them suffer like that! Good luck

i am sorry to hear of your loss! I hope you will take comfort in the good times you shared. I know she cannot be replaced but perhaps another dog will pave the way to recovery. Best wishes,

Re: My Sundance has Grade 2 Mast Cell Cancer
I lost a dog 11 years ago to Mast Cell. I don't remember hearing a stage at the time. The first turmor found in her front leg was removed with clean margins. About 6 months later, another tumor appeared on her hind leg and the vet said this has to come out. I wish I had not listened to him and reali...

Re: Alopecia and Homeopathy adding Buddy2s experience
My3 year old male was losing face and head hair and was misdiagnosed four times until I went to a homeopathic vet who sent a fur sample away for analysis which revealed toxic levels of aluminum and merury - OH MY! He has been fed on Purina Pro Plan salmon sensitive for 2 years. I blame that. She als...

Can't seem to get current pic to upload but anyway, suffice it to say that Buddy2 is balding in clumps. He's pretty funny looking but just as sweet and loving and seemingly happy as ever.

I am so sorry to hear of your loss. Losing a loved one is probably the most difficult thing we do. I know you gave Sheena the best possible life and I hope time is helping you heal.

Re: TPLO surgery for torn knee CCL with severe dysplasia ???
Thanks to all for your feedback. JasonandNat, so sorry to hear about FenHuang, I had not seen her story. I hope she didn't pass as a result of the surgery. : ( After all these years of living with dogs, I was so surprised to learn how common this injury is. Buddy2 is doing very well without surgery....

Re: Hi, new chow owner here.
Your baby is absolutely adorable. My current dogs were adopted at 1 year and 2 years old so it's been a long time since I've started with a puppy. However, on the temperature issue, I know that drinking ice water can be very dangerous for an overheated dog so I wonder about icing her at all. On the ...

Oh gosh no. Buddy2 stands as far off as he can get when we encounter people & pause for sister Suzy to meet & greet. I'd say you have an unusual chow.

Re: TPLO surgery for torn knee CCL with severe dysplasia ???
Thanks & WOW! Sukie looks so much like Buddy2! Same color and face structure. On the Weds after the Sat vet visit, I took him to see Dr. Ava Frick, a homeopathic vet here in town. Buddy2 walked in on 4 legs which convinced her it is not a full tear and after looking at his X-rays, said no way sh...

TPLO surgery for torn knee CCL with severe dysplasia ????
Sweet Buddy2 is just over 3 years old and came in from the yard on three legs late yesterday, no previous gait issue. Apparently turned too fast or something, vet diagnosed torn CCL (ACL in humans) and recommended TPLO surgery. He highly recommended a local canine ortho surgeon. Then, when he came b...

Re: I need post patella surgery advice
my 3 yr old male chow tore his ACL yesterday and TPLO surgery has been recommended. What I've been seeing is that post surgery they are supposed to stay calm, confined 10 x 10 and be on leash ony for approx 4 months. Your surgery is probably less aggressive but I think I would not let her loose for ...

Re: My chow chow Tina is hyperactive...
I just don't understand why dogs are brought home to live outside. They are such wonderful companions. I echo previous posts, I feel sorry for poor Tina who probably spends most of her time cooped up bored and lonely outside. Why have a dog at all if you don't want to share your life with it?

Re: My Chow is scared of people approaching
Amy is a beautiful little girl and it's easy to see why everyone would want to love on her but I'm not sure it is fair to her to allow it. It sounds like she is well socialized but a crowd of strangers reaching out to her could be intimidating, I know I wouldn't like it. The nipping is a problem but...

loves his toys
There are a few toys that live out in the yard but he also enjoys playing with toys indoors. He takes them out the doggy door, we bring them in, he takes them out, we bring them in.

Re: Buddy2 today, if this works !?! (on an ipad)
so, if you can see him in 2013, uploaded in the photos section, you can see how very much my handsome boy has changed. He is almost over a bacterial skin infection on his head but most of the hair loss on his head is I think because he sticks his head between the fence posts and even bites on the wo...

Re: Please help! Rescuing a Chow (mix?) in April
He has the old style (pre-designer) face like my Buddy2 who we adopted 2 years ago and who is still timid about certain things but - oh such a loving boy and so obviously grateful to be with us! I wish you could keep him where he would obviously be cared for. It will be hard for him to re-adjust aga...

Re: convenia injection and Apoquel tablets
Better of course to find and avoid the source of the allergy if possible. I have no experience with those drugs but would make every effort to figure out what the dog is allergic to.
