Re: IMPORTANT ABOUT ANNIE
My first chow was well behaved, we were welcome anywhere. The same goes for Mikki chow, extremely quiet, wll mannered. Both had been ignored by their previous owners, ditto for the mutt I adopted recently, he is from a shelter. Great finds, first chow was free (except for vacc&spay) Mikki $200, ...

Re: How long do females have boobs?
Dip the swollen nipples in cold, icy water, that'll make them shrink. If that's not possible, apply icepacks. Suggested by Dr.Spock. My first chow Luna had puppies before I adopted her. They had shaved her belly. It took about one month for some hair to grow on her chest and if I remember correctly ...

Re: attack of the killer tomatoes
Not much SA news is shown on CNN. I watch the DW and get a bit more int'l. news. Zimbabwe's Mugabe wants war. He's a dictator, isn't he? Two weeks and there will be an election. Tomatos would come in handy, wonder what would happen to the tomato pelter?

Re: Rescue Chows vs Breeder Chows
I have read every one of the posts here, I am a quick reader which helps. Or I am simply bored, doesn't matter. IMO this is a great discussion to hear all the pros and cons even if a bit on the negative side. Back in the 90's when I found my first chow, I joined a group of chow owners. I felt bad fo...

Re: attack of the killer tomatoes
Vicky, our growing season is very brief. June, July, August and it's over. The tomatoes I planted last month are only one foot tall, a few yellow blooms. I will harvest my tomatoes in August, some in September and that's it. Outside the growing season, except for apples, onions, all our fruit, veggi...

Re: Fur coat
Every winter I take a spoonful of cod oil. I also eat lots of pacific salmon. My doctor told me to be careful and take it easy on fish oil It may thin the blood. Not sure if the same can happen to dogs? My chow's coat has improved tremendously since she was spayed one year ago. I changed the dog foo...

Re: Do Chows have oil glands on middle of back?
I groomed my chow earlier this morning. I noticed that she has an oily area along her spine. It goes from her shoulders to almost where the tail starts. It's about 8 inches long and 2 inches wide. I brush her legs, tummy, tail first. The oily area along the spine I do last because my fingers get gre...

Re: long lost members
In the old days a bunch of us college students would all go and see the horror movie. We got dressed up, brought candles, it's a great sing-a-long. Enjoyed every one of the horror events. The movie story? Who cares, it's the event it'self that is fun. To enjoy it you have to be with a bunch of ppl a...

He's got a nice smile, looks charming, would Tippsy like him too? I can't blame you for having falling in love with him, he's just too damn cute. But.....aren't you going off to college soon? Perhaps living on campus? Just think about the next few years. You will be busy, education, seeking a career...

What's Iraq gotta do with it???? It's a Mexican conspiracy. I have Iraqi friends, they're nice ppl. Macdonalds serves tomatoes on their burgers in Canada which they stopped for the moment. Buy Canadian hot house tomatoes, Cuban grown tomatoes are good too, I love the yellow ones. I eat tons of tomat...

Re: Rescue Chows vs Breeder Chows
If only a select number of breeders were allowed to breed, less chows would end up in shelters. Unfortunately this is not an ideal world. I could not adopt a chow baby from a breeder knowing about the Annie's all across the USA or little Komiko In Canada who may have been a little kid's playpal at o...

Re: Rescue Chows vs Breeder Chows
Whether to rescue or buy a chow from a breeder should be up to the individual. Not everyone is cut out to tame an almost feral chow. I know I wouldn't have been capable, able to when I was younger. i wouldn't have had it in me. As my son got into his teens, I, as a single parent had to take tough me...

Re: Best type of harness for a Chow?
S.91---I use the Lupi, I have two, it works well with Mikki chow and the pooch. The Lupi prevents them from pulling; it does tighten. If you find a store that carries the Lupi, try it out for size before you buy. The improper size or wrong adjustment may cause the chow to slip out of it. The Lupi ha...

I remember reading on this forum that some chows take a while for the ears to pop up. My chow has floppy ears, It bothered me at first but she don't care.
Otis is handsome, enjoy him for what he is, lovely photos.

Is that ever cute. That gave me an idea, I'll buy my chow two pairs of kiddie galoshes. Mikki hates the first snow and hates going outside to do her pottie. Thanks Roxana for posting this.

Re: Pekoe, Onyx, treats and spaying.
The mutt I adopted early Feb. acted like Onyx. Mikki couldn't care less about the mutt's treats. He came off the street and never had anything good to eat for a couple of months. I used a broom to get him off Mikki's beef bone. The silly mutt attacked the broom fiercely, had this been my hand or Mik...

Re: New Chowlings .... 4 days old
Are hips, elbows, patellas and eyes of the parents o.k.? OFA? There are so many genetic health problems with the chow, I'd do my homework before adopting a chow pup. I didn't know about silver chows?
Good luck with the adoption. I hope it's a reputable breeder you're adopting from.

Re: My house was broken into tonight
That's a horrible invasion of someone's privacy. My place was broken into some years ago and I felt violated. Does Titus bark when someone comes close to the house? Possibly the burglar was someone Titus had met before? I had an alarm installed, an alarm that sounds inside and outside to alarm the n...
