Re: O Kitty!

Is there some sort of animal protection agency in your area? Or do know of a person who collects, feeds strays? I read of an elderly woman who lives in Beijing and has been rescuing stray cats and dogs that were destined to be killed. You're leaving, maybe before you leave the country, you could sen...

Re: Pekoe got groomed today, BUT!!

Is the apprehensive dad maybe transferring his anxiety to the chow? My first chow Luna was a nightmare, the worst dog the vet ever treated, the vet and his assistant were NOT afraid of chows or any other large breed dog. So, before the annual torture/visit, the vet suggested it might help the situat...

Chi ching had to make sure this was not a strange cat invading his territory. The cat looks like it's on a mission, mice? or small dogs? Great photo.

Re: high anxiety

We had a horrible storm last night. For the first time, both chow Mikki and the pooch wouldn't leave my side. I turn the TV off 'cause it can get hit by lightning. I am scared to death of storms, I had their leashes, my back pack with dog food and water ready by the front door in case we need to lea...

Re: Are there any seeing eye chows known?

I have very poor vision, very little periveal (sp) vision, severe nightblindness, macular degeneration. My late chow Luna wouldn't have made a good seeing eye dog, she pulled me across an iced up field chasing a fox. I couldn't stop her, the bushes at the edge finally stopped her from running and I ...

Re: Wisconsin flooding

I saw on the news, the Wisconsin river overflowing and one large beautiful home was swept away. I hope our members in the midwest, Wisconsin are o.k. Dogdad? We had a tornado a few blocks away, lots of rain, hail, strong winds, no deaths. It's unusual for Canada to get tornados, we've had few in the...

Re: Pekoe got groomed today, BUT!!

When my chow Luna was having back/leg trouble, she insisted on her walks. We went for little mini walks several times a day. Pekoe's leg will heal in time and she'll want to go on her usual longer walk. Chows are a determined bunch. Pekoe is one of the determined ones, she's no slouch.

Re: What temperature can your Chow stand??

Humidity is a factor with Mikki chow and my late Luna. At the moment the temp here is in the 90's, humidity is 80%. The humidex is 40 C. Mikki gets a p and poo out in the yard, time: 10 minutes. A short walk tonight when it's a bit cooler. The pooch mix is o.k. in the heat, we're leaving for Woofsto...

Re: Toronto puppy mill shut down

The problem with the toronto humane society, they won't hand over the dogs to just anyone. Because I already have female chow, I am out. They won't hand over any of their dogs to rescue, they won't deal with ontario chow rescue (Monica, ccorg member) They also have a young chow mix for adoption They...

Re: Toronto puppy mill shut down

I didn't get to see the chow. Chows don't do well in cages and today the staff kept her in the back where it's a bit cooler and quieter. I will try again on Monday when the regular staff is on duty. I can't take an older chow who has trouble walking, I live in a narrow townhouse, three sets of stair...

Re: Troy Hospitalized - Severe Pancreatitis

I didn't know Troy's health problems were so extensive. i will never complain about vet costs with my two pooches again. The westie mix I adopted was found wandering the streets in the middle of January. Who knows what he ate, he also eats anything that's in the yard, on the floor, anything that is ...

Re: Pekoe got groomed today, BUT!!

My late chow Luna fell or tripped the bottom two steps one night. Her tail wouldn't go up, she wasn't able to walk up the stairs. I thought she had a stroke. Her head was at a tilt too. Proud chow Luna was, she got a bit anxious not being able to walk properly. I massaged her back and legs. I went o...

Re: I was attacked and robbed

It's the same everywhere. Here too. I shopped in a frozen food store last week, I left, a few minutes later a woman walked in, jumped the counter and held up the clerk with a machete. It's a very remote strip mall and I didn't see a single car, I bought a coffee next door and only saw one old man, h...

Sharon sorry to hear this. You need to stay strong for your pooches, they need you and you need them to get better. I have a lot of confidence that this will be treated successfully. How's Pekoe today? I also was wondering if the designer groomer drugged Pekoe to keep her calm? My chow understands my army drills. Leave it, keep movin', stop pulling or we're goin' home.

Re: Toronto puppy mill shut down

The humane society which is privately funded spays and neuters the animals before they're adopted. Not sure how they handle pups too young to be altered. I called the humane society about the chow mix puppies that were in this puppy mill, they found none. The old man has transferred them to another ...

Fleas in backyard/non chow

Does anyone have any suggestions how to rid a backyard of fleas that were brought in by raccoons? The coons hang out in my yard from 10 pm till dawn. They chase and yell and scream at each other. Never mind my chow going crazy and the mutt barking for hours and I can't sleep. My yard was a bit overg...

Out of curiosity I called a number to inquire about chow chow puppies that were advertised online. http://toronto.kijiji.ca/c-pets-dogs-puppies-for-sale-Chow-Chow-pups-W0QQAdIdZ47919005 When I arrived at the seller's house, I was told they're sold. I checked the website again. "View poster's ot...
