Re: HELP PLEASE!!!
This can be an issue with trying to raise two siblings or pups at same age. Look up litter mate syndrome on google and there should be some info about it and some things you can do. As of right now you have two dogs coming into maturity and trying to figure out where they rank in the scheme of thing...

Re: Training a Chow mix
Oh he's cute. I would say he does seem to have the chowness to him, esp in the coloring and face. Does he curl his tail up over his back, it looks like he may hold it up at least a little? You will want to take him to a spot where no other dogs have contact...it is not always easy, as even if you ha...

Re: Training a Chow mix
A black tongue isn't always a sign that the dog is a chow mix, and often dogs are mismarked for this reason. A purebred golden retriever and GSD can have black spots on their tongue. Shar peis are another breed with a solid black tongue. Though chow mixes are not uncommon, perhaps you could share a ...

Re: Chow Abuse
My brothers had a roommate that didn't take care of his dog. I remember going up there and seeing this poor skin and bones basset hound. You could literally wrap your hand around his waist. As I sat there looking at him, surrounded by all these people...I could not believe not ONE person saw anythin...

Re: Heart murmur
My 15 yo yorkie/pom has a bad heart murmur, though his is mostly from old age. At the time it was discovered, I was about to have a dental done on him, which was cancelled because it was considered too risky and def not worth it for that. However the vet said if I did insist on doing it, I should fi...

Re: Best Time to Neuter
Not to hi-jack Applebear's post, but i have no real response as to the best time for that. You are right that there is no consistent reponses and quite a few varying opinions. I would say this however...if your dog is not completely secure or unsupervised at any point around other dogs, sooner is b...

Re: Best Time to Neuter
Thanks for the response. Yeah I've heard of some breeders that have them done young, and if I'm honest, it would probably be a deal breaker for me...6-8 months is youngest I'd feel comfortable at, and since it seems to be no real clear answer, I'll probably just go with what I know since I haven't h...

It's because of that fighting/playing style that Ty gets into trouble sometimes (usually just scares the other dogs) because other dogs have the appropriate spring and jump type plays like puppies and then there's Ty who barrels in using his whole body like a little bulldozer. lol When you said Ty ...

Re: Would a chow-chow be OK in a shared garden?
The chow would view the garden as his/her territory most likely. If you did some super socialization, that would help, though you do have to remember they can guard naturally. I personally would probably just go out with the dog and supervise, so when people come out he/she can see you are ok with a...

Best Time to Neuter
Ro is getting closer to that 6 month mark, which is usually when I do their big fix. However, I have read in a variety of different places, that some prefer to wait on the growth plates, which is around a year and half I believe. Does anyone have any views or opinions on the best time? Thanks, later.

Rolex is looking very handsome,.. I notice a pool, will he go in?? We tried to get our golden retriever in and she didn't want any parts of it.. We wanted to do some water therapy on her ankles cause she sprained them when she slipped in a puddle on the driveway.. Now My Chows never wanted any part...

Re: Chow Coat
Love Truffles name, and what a cutey. :) I think you're doing just fine. Chow's blow their coat a couple times a year, you'll see a lot of hair then. Otherwise, I never found them to be extreme shedders in the down time, unless that was just mine. I've heard mixed reviews with the furminators...I kn...

Re: Chow vs. pittbul
First let me say that I am glad your chow is ok and hopefully the pitbull is too. I also must say that pitbulls do not have 'locking jaws' . This is just another one of the myths and terror tactics used against the breed. As owner of a breed that is stereo typed I feel the need to also defend the i...

Re: 'Purebred' question
I suppose a simple way to look at it is, how do you think we got our 'purebreds' in the first place? All of them, every breed, were created by mixing. I watched an interested show awhile back, I *think* it occurred in the uk, where they bred a pointer with the Dalmatian to get rid of defect, then br...

Re: Chow vs. pittbul
Chows dont show aggression head on like other breeds. They sneak attack towards the sides and rear. I had to chuckle a little bit because my friend was taking care of mine awhile back and she messages that he is doing some weird butt thing to her dogs and wants to know what the heck it was. I was c...

Rory may of meant one person just at first, and then gradually enter others. Maybe it would be too confusing to have everyone trying to establish leadership at once...I could see that, as just a means to get him to understand the concept and then introducing other family members as you go. My person...

Re: Our Chow Chow bit my dad, what do i do? Help please!
You may have to seek the help of a professional on how to properly work with him on this problem. A couple things I see, is you should never reach a hand in when he is in this state...he is not recognizing friend from foe, all he is seeing is is a threat and he wants to make that go away. Also you a...
