Re: Help.... Wet bib and neck
Chloe is 8 and 1/2 and she too is a very messy drinker. She has never had an infection and I barely even attempt to dry her at this point. She does go to the groomers for a bath and brush out every month and that is part of why she goes so often. I tried different bowls and heights with her years ag...

Re: Liver disease. Need advice
I don't have any experience with this type of health problem but I did want to offer my thoughts and prayers for you and Loki. It is a most difficult decision that you face. All you can do is gather the facts and choose what is best for Loki. Much easier said than done I know. I'm sure you have 'goo...

Re: My Suki Passed, The Love Remains...
It is a very individual decision to get another pup. When I lost Kody I just couldn't bear it and I did get Shuggy very soon after. While he didn't replace Kody or take away my pain he did provide a distraction and someone new to love and care for. I still grieved but having a new little life to car...

I am so sorry for your loss. I too lost my Chow Kody to an oral cancer. He was 14.5. Thank you for sharing your beautiful story of love and loss.

Re: Love being outside.......
Doggie door? I have one and it is the greatest thing ever. My two come in and out as they please. They are probably 50/50 on indoor/outdoor time. They especially love to be out on cool evenings/mornings. Otherwise I'm not sure how to get him inside. I trained my two when they were pups to come insid...

Re: Urinating inside after being Kenneled for the first time.
Boarding can be extremely stressful for them. I boarded my two once (never again!) and now I use a pet sitter they know when we go out of town. Also while boarded I assume he had to potty in the cage or wherever they kept him so along with stress he is confused. I would give him some time to relax a...

Re: Torn Cruciate Ligament
I have no experience with the lateral suture but my Chloe had Tplo surgery a few years ago. I'm not a fan of regular vets for complicated specialty things so we went to a orthopedic specialist. The surgery was around $2750 but worth it IMO. She has severe hip dysplasia as well so I wasn't going to f...

Re: Teenagers Fur question
Hi and welcome. As far as her coat she will shed her puppy coat over the warm months and her new adult coat will grow in for the next winter. Shedding season pretty much makes you wonder if the hair will ever stop coming out! Frequent brushing is a must or do like I did and find a wonderful groomer ...

Re: Best vacuum
After what seems like hundreds of vacuum cleaners over the years I bought a Shark Navigator Professional and I love it. It works on carpet, area rugs, and hardwoods. I bought it off of Amazon for around $160.00. The only complaint I have is that you have to clean the chow hair out of the brush perio...

Re: Prayers needed......
Well first of all I am very sorry about Clifford. I hope he recovers and all is well. I will say that I do not agree with wanting the pit put down. It is the owners responsibility and if anyone needs 'putting down' its them. I would make sure that Clifford is never out alone and do whatever needs do...

Yes when raised as a pup with a cat there should be no problem. Both of mine were raised with a cat.

Re: Chowlab
Well my first question is how is he getting out? I don't mean to state the obvious here but that is your problem. You can work on recall with treats/rewards but at the end of the day you need to fix your fence or whatever is allowing his escape. My biggest fear has always been that my two would esca...

Re: Getting on a bit!
It's tough when they get older. My kody lived to be 14.5 and it was a recurring oral cancer that finally made the decision. He was mostly deaf, his eye sight wasn't what it once was, and he was arthritic. We did things to make life easier for him in those final few years. We took steps out of his li...

Well she doesn't look anywhere near 5 mos. In this pic she doesn't even look 12 weeks to me. She is adorable though! I hate that she is in quarantine! Are you allowed to visit and spend time with her? These are very important bonding/socializing weeks.
Re: Biting
At the top of this thread/forum there is a 'best of training' permanent thread with a link on bite inhibition that you can check out if you haven't. My Shuggy was very mouthy as a pup so when we played I mostly used a stuffed toy between us. When he did nip me I would 'yelp' and stop play/ignore him...

Re: Separation Anxiety :(
My advice is don't separate them. I have read that getting two pups the same age at the same time inhibits their bonding with you because they bond more with each other. (It's too late to change that now) Also something about sleeping with them separately increases bonding. That is why I waited a fe...

Re: Severe Bilateral Hip Dysplasia *pictures*
My Chloe has severe hip dysplasia. I discovered this when she was 5, she is now 8. She had no symptoms until all of the sudden she was limping one day. Off we went to the vet to find out this horrible news. Apparently she has been this way her entire life and we never had a clue. She had yearly phys...

Congrats on the new addition! He is a cutie! To answer your med question Chloe takes rimadyl and Tramadol . We tried rimadyl alone and I didn't see much, if any difference so we discussed changing or adding meds. Like you I was worried about combining meds but her lab work is perfect and we will kee...

Re: things chow cows like?
I have one that likes stuffed toys only and one who could care less about any toy. They both enjoy any type of edible bones/treats. Neither of my mine will sleep on a dog bed. I think chows in general prefer to lay on cool surfaces but my Chloe loves to lay on the couch with us. They love walks that...
