Looks like a mix, but I've no idea what breed/breeds are in the rest of the equation.

Re: Chow and Aneasthesia
Ketamine is the sedative used before a gas anesthetic agent. I've never seen my own or other Chows I've done anesthesia on have issue with it, but any owner can always request their veterinarian use anesthetic gas only. Isoflurane and Sevoflurane are the only gasses I'm aware are used in veterinary ...

Re: Bonzo Blue Eyes 1 year pics!
Placing the eye color topic aside, there are many reasons why some dogs should not be bred. Appearance is one...breeding to standard keeps the breed looking like a Chow and not, say, a Basset. But, that aside, there are numerous health issues that can occur in the breed if one just breeds any two do...

Re: My chows eye color
Are the eyes blue as the dog in the link above has or more of a uniform, slate color..like the coat? I have seen blue puppies with slate-ish colored eyes.

Re: Bonzo Blue Eyes 1 year pics!
Most registering bodies are just that...registering bodies. A dishonest breeder can easily register a questionable litter of pups. Chows don't have blue eyes...even blue Chows do not have eyes that color. That would remind me more of something like Siberian Husky or Aussie mixed in there. He's a lov...

I only feed a puppy food for the first 4 or 5 months. Then they go onto an all life stages food.

I would start by finding her comfort zone..whatever distance she is comfortable with around strangers. Then, praise her and offer tasty treats. At first, stay at that distance and then leave, so you're leaving on a happy note. Slowly, over time, move closer to strangers and repeat the praise and tre...

Re: I got growled at!
I prefer to teach the 'trade game'. I grab something of much higher value than what they have, say 'trade' (or drop, etc) and give them the new object while I take the old one. Eliminates conflict and teaches them that giving up their coveted item results in great things for them

Re: Very Very Serious Problem w. Max.
Because it is a sudden change, I would start with a thorough vet check, including bloodwork. (thyroid issues can cause temperament changes) IN this instance, it doesn't seem surprising that the incident escalated. I'm not a fan at all of rolling dogs on their sides. For whatever cause made him initi...

Re: Prospective Chow Chow Owner - Allergic to Dogs
You'd have to spend time with a few Chows to see how you react. Dog allergies have nothing to do with odor. It is generally an allergy to dander, which all dogs have. Nonshedding breeds like Poodle, Bichons, etc don't drop the hair, so are better for allergy sufferers. You can frequently bathe a dog...

Re: Is She Really a CREAM?
I believe it is not uncommon for cream chows to have black noses as youngsters, but have it turn pink/brownish as adults. Light noses are against the standard in the US so they're not commonly shown as adults here. I think flesh colored noses are permissible in the UK though.

In addition, Cerenia is available from your vet and works very well. Curbing the nausea, coupled with frequent car trips should help the issue as he grows.

Re: Traveling with a chow
If he tolerates car rides well, there's no harm in taking him with. However, if you're bringing home a new dog member, allow for plenty of time for introductions before sticking them in a car together for 16 hours. When we moved across country years ago, my then 11 year old Chow did great on the two...

Re: Gain 28 Greyhound feed
I can't find any actual ingredient list for the food. In the US, racing greyhounds are fed a notoriously poor diet, so I'd certainly not feed a food designed for them. Not sure how it is elsewhere though. I assume you're not in the US, so I know some of the commonly mentioned brands of food aren't a...

Re: Snapper Chow, biter chow, agreesive chow?
This is a baby. Puppies lack hands and fingers, so they explore with their mouths. Putting mouths on people isn't generally accepted, but you show this, not by getting angry, but by getting up and walking away. Thus, attention to the puppy is ended. They learn pretty quickly what is and is not accep...

Re: Is She Really a CREAM?
Looks like a cream to me. Many times cinnamons have blueish masks as puppies. In addition, I believe they look blueish, coat wise, when born..so I doubt the breeder would have mistaken the color. What colors were the parents and grandparents? Here's a link to some color genetics outlines http://xin-...

If he's losing hair to the point of baldness as well as biting at the area, I'd assume it is some sort of allergy issue. Perhaps flea allergy or some other contact allergy.

Aesop was on Cosequin, which is as mentioned, similar, for a period of time when he had a bone chip in his elbow and we were looking to prevent any further issues. He did fine, and if there's something that can give him digestive upset, it probably will  In the end, the tiny chip fragments shif...

Re: Choke Chain pulling Hair out
There are snap on martingales now, which seem pretty handy. That said, our dogs get walked on their normal flat collars. (rolled leather buckle collar in Aesop's case) We taught him early on to not pull as it's one of the few dog behaviors I can't tolerate.
