Well so far so good on the home front. Our first night together and they all get along. I even left them all alone in the house for a few hours and when I got back, all was fine. He likes to jump up on me, even when I sit down. We'll work on that. I think he is so tame because after living tied up h...

Okay now I grossing out...... I just Googled hookworms and saw what nasty little buggers they are. Marshall never had any problems like this so its all new to me. Anyway when I had him back in the bonding room today he jumped up and landed a paw right in the lip! Now I read all this about hookworms ...

Thanks for the encouragement. This guy is what dog rescue is all about, what a hard luck life and a lucky break he got. I hope I can get him turned around and well again. His basic exam and rabies shot which went just fine. He is very well behaved for one that was outside tied to a tree. They took b...

Well I did it. Polo, I'll probably change his name, is now home with us and they all get along very well with no fighting at all. Thats the good news, the bad news is I got him tested for heartworms at the animal control and it came back positive. I don't what the extent of the problem is but will k...

I am looking for a Chow in fact, the one who left out on his own. I know the chances for him to turn up are slim to none and slim has left the room, but I visit the pound every so often to check the dead animal list to look for any matches in case he turns up. I of course look in all the pens in the...

Cook him some chicken and rice or try a holistic dog food like Eagle Pack in some attempt to get him to eat something. Then maybe get a second opinion, I trust little of what vets tell me these days.

Possibly getting another...

Last night while during my regular visit to the pound I came across what looks to be a full blooded Chow somebody turned in on behalf of their nieghbor. He is freindly and yet in poor shape. His coat is matted and has some skin irritation around the tail. He is also very under weight and needs some ...

Marshall, 1992-2006

Although he left 6 weeks ago to go do what I guess he thought he had to do, it still feels like yesterday. I miss him so much it still makes me cry everyday. "For more than 14 years you were my best friend, my riding buddy, my kid, my partner, and even my soulmate. I will always miss you and ne...

I bought a car with leather seats just to b/c I had a Chow. Not only that it was a convertable, so when I want to "air it out" I take a anti static duster thingy and wipe off the dash while going down the road with the top down and all the hair just blows on out. I never had him puncture t...

As far as will puppies fight, yes. I was told stories of of mine and his two siblings going nuts on each other at 5 weeks. It was described as 3 balls of hair rolling over and over like a tumbleweed, except with a lot a snarling and such. I can't say how to remedy it though except for to either let ...

LOL! (Sorry for laughing) Well dogs use urine to for marking and mating, as do many other animals is nature. Sort of a message board if you will. Thats why they pee where others pee when you walk them. Its like they are checking messages. I think the male might be taking it another level, kinda give...

Well if your husband had a bite on his arm then the other owner would have been in deep doo doo and you don't need a witness so much then. Might be a good idea to have a camera, and since we all do have digital cameras these days, on you during a walk. Snap a pic of the loose dog and then you can na...

How old is she? What do you feed her?

I would make sure your regular Vet does a complete exam(s) and not rush through it. It may take more than extra bloodwork. Ask a lot of questions and dont leave until YOU feel like they have done enough answering your questions.

I got Marshall when my niece, who is the oldest of the now five nieces and nephews, was 6. He only saw them at Christmas and special occasions but I never had a problem. As each grew old enough I sat each down and explained the "rules of the dog", not just mine but all dogs. Never sneak up...

This was a common occurence when I used to walk with Marshall. I never let him run loose in the park and often we would run into a loose dog with owner following nearby. It almost always ended up with me doing all I could to pull Marsh back and waiting for the other owner to get their dog. When he w...

I used to have mine groomed until the groomer did a total hack job. Then I just bought shears and started doing it myself. With a high quality set of clippers and a high quality blade you can do it a no time. Two words I could never say unless I was ready to do it was "bath" and "hair...
