Website link request

Hi,
I purchased gates for my home through this website. They have very good barrier systems for Chows, dogs, kids, etc.
I thought it might be a good link to have on this site.

Thank you, Karen

Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home

Dogs That Know When Their Owners Are Coming Home by Rupert Sheldrake - I just picked this book up yesterday at a garage sale. It's quite interesting. During the work week, I normally get home around 6PM. Shiloh waits at the sliding glass door while Mr. N stakes out the gate. I can hear his bark as s...

Chow Accessories

Jeff, Just like you, we have an assortment of Chow accessories. Our most recent purchase are permanent gates to install in strategic entry ways. They will replace the temporary gates that we put up and put away every day. We hope these will be sturdy enough to hold Mr. N's weight. He gets a bit upse...

They don't forget!

I agree - Chows never forget. Shiloh has been with us close to two years now. Who ever had her before us must have carried a big set of keys on a keyring. To this day, when we go to unlock the gate for our evening walk, she cringes to a scared submissive position when she hears the keys jingle. They...

Mr. N's avatar submission

Hi,
Just to make sure I follow the thread of emails correctly. I need to submit Mr. N's picture to the "Members" avatar. I tried to submit one to the gallery today and the current image block shows the red X.

Thank you,
Karen

Problem

Is your father a large person? A friend of ours is on Mr. Nahkohe's blacklist. He is big person and Mr. N goes beserk when he comes over. Another friend of ours who is tall came over for a visit. We advised that it might be better if he met Mr. N on his knees. So his meeting Mr. N wasn't intimidatin...

Confucious

OMG!! I'm sooo sorry this has happened! What a horrible kid and irresponsible parents!! I don't have advice but just wanted to tell you to we have you and Confucious in our hearts & prayers! We've never taken our Chows to a dog park but know what it is like having kids run up and expect to be ab...

Kayla

Hello Kayla, My name is Shiloh. Mom and Dad said we look alike! I have a black muzzle with the tan body and a very white tail and breeches. I love water - do you? I have a kiddie pool that I love to jump into at least once a day - even now when it's cold. As soon as Mom figures out how to post my pi...

Diet

Like Pekoe, my two Chows are fed Nutro products. Although it costs a bit more, I offset it by not having the vet bills for skin problems. Whatever food you choose, you need to do the expansion test. If you put the kibble in water and it swells twice it size – don’t feed it to your Chow! This can bec...

Grooming

Introduce your Chowling to grooming as soon as possible. I didn't have Mr. Nahkohe groomed until he was almost a year old. I have to give the groomer alot of credit for taking on the challenge. Mr. N was very aggressive and had to be muzzled right away. We immediately established the fact that I nee...

Beach Park

We took a walk along West Cliff Drive in Santa Cruz, CA. There is a beach where owners can take their dogs until 10AM in the morning. What a delight it was to watch the mix of dogs playing in the surf, chasing balls, digging holes in the sand...there were a couple of dogs with their little rain jack...

Max - training/crate

Although many have crate trained their dogs, I don't find it reasonable for any human or animal to go for hours and hours without being able to spend a penny or bundle! Nor do I think it very good to keep them cooped up in a crate. I know others may think it's okay but I just ask myself if I would w...

Frequency of shots

I pretty much feel that other than rabies, I will not have Shiloh or Mr. N have shots yearly. When the rabies shots are due, I will consider giving them the other shots. Maybe not the same thing but after doing the yearly shots for our cats, one of them developed one of those "spots" that ...

Understanding this sitet

Hi Everyone, I am still trying to navigate intelligently through this site. I am finding posts here and there. I'm guessing because we are all trying to figure it out. My guess is that the Community discussions may be more of the non-specific topics and that is where many of us will post. I'm a litt...
