Re: Young Dog: Stiffness in back legs?

I've contacted my pet plan insurance and they have confirmed that they will cover the congenital problem (because it was diagnosed AFTER the plan had been created a year ago) and will reimburse us anything up to $10k for any surgery plans. This in itself is a burden lifter! That's great news! Would...

Re: help! 3months old won't eat, shy and feared

But i never heard her bark. Haha is it normal? My first Chow didn't bark until he was 4-5 months old. I also remember wondering if that was normal. I didn't need to worry. He would howl when he heard sirens. My current puppy started barking at 2-3 months, but stops when I acknowledge that I've hear...

Re: Smoothy with No Name

23 weeks old, 40 lbs. Now the puppy weight calculator says he'll be 55 lbs. at maturity. I don't think I'll bother checking those sites again. He'll stop growing when it's the proper time.

Re: so Happy I just had to share :-)

Congratulations on the recovery of lost photos! Yay for Photobucket! After a few years of trying to manage multiple hard drive backups, I decided to go back to an off-site photo storage service. It's worth $40/year to have all my digital photos & videos backed up in the cloud. Even backup/archiv...

Re: Has anyone purchased a chow chow from D&M Farm?

Sadly the search function here isn't great, so you'll have to dig around quite a bit to find comments regarding this breeder. I spent many hours searching through old posts here to get some idea of what to look for in a breeder. Even after all that research there's really no way to be absolutely cer...

Re: Smoothy with No Name

Thor turned 5 months old on March 8th. He weighs over 36 lbs. and, according to an online dog weight calculator, he'll end up weighing ~51 lbs. when mature. Such estimates probably have a large margin of error, but I would be happy if he ended up being on the small side for a Chow. My niece would lo...

Re: The “perfect” walk?

I was told to put a handful of treats in my pocket and give them out if he would walk beside me. Unfortunately, Harvey lose all focus on me and is into the great wide world. The treats (highest level possible for your particular dog) might work 99% of the time. But if a distraction (squirrel, anoth...

19 weeks old today, 33+ lbs. Most of the puppy fuzz on his back has been replaced by coarser, longer fur. He’s enjoying the spring-like weather before more rain arrives tomorrow.

Re: We got out today

Now I have to go figure out where they escaped from. I think it's the place where the ground has sunk down from the edge of the fencing from all the rain. Glad to hear they came when called. Your story prompted me to put a monthly reminder on my calendar to check my fences. At least Chows aren't us...

Re: Cherub Chows - Any First Hand Feedback?

I have no contact with Linda at the moment as she has told me she is done. Apparently not quite completely "done". She's had pups (one at a time) posted on puppyfind in the past few months. I had considered driving up to see a pup, but discovered that she'd moved further north from OR to ...

Ahhh...going old school. I doubt my digital camera's lens is fast enough (f 3.5 at ~30mm equivalent) to get similar results, but I'll play around with it and see what I get.

If you forgot your password, then you need to ask the admin to reset it. There's usually something like "I forgot my password" when you try to login with the wrong password. If you remember your current password and would like to change it to something simpler, then go to: User Control Pan...

Re: Thoughts on Crate Training - Not Crate Training

I bought a crate with the intention of training him to see it as a den. He has no problems going in and a few times has even voluntarily napped in it, but I've never actually locked him inside the crate. My situation is similar to sarahbeara's in that my Chow is rarely left unsupervised. He's almost...

Re: Training my Duce to not use the bathroom in the house

Different pups will respond to different training techniques, but what worked for my pup was to squirt water at him when he started to chew on furniture (or anything else I didn't want him to do). I did it in a way so he didn't see the source. He would test it a few times, but then learned to back o...

Glue: He's from Rhenegade Chows in TN. It was my first time finding a pup via the internet, so you can imagine all the worse-case-scenarios running through my head. I know how randomly bad things can go even with the best intentions and planning. I feel very fortunate that Thor has been just about e...

Re: When to start feeding twice a day?

I don't have an answer to your question, but here are some thoughts on the topic of feeding frequency. I found variations in "guidelines" from various sources. Some say to feed my 4 month old puppy 3 times a day, others say 4 times. My pup seems to prefer the 4 smaller meals, so that's wha...

Re: Any guesses on how big Sushi will be?

I'm guessing growth rates vary considerably from pup to pup. FWIW, here are the weights for my male smoothy. I was hoping he'd max out around 60 lbs., which is what both his parents weigh. 8 weeks: 11 lbs., 9.5 oz. ==> 10 weeks: ~15 lbs. 11 weeks: 16 lbs., 4 oz. 12 weeks: ~18 lbs. 13 weeks: 21 lbs.,...

DrewBear-why do start off with the sentence " only a few know where your 17 week old comes from"? Is that a secret or do you not like where you purchased your dog from. I'm just alittle confused WHY all this has anything to do with my original post. If you read my post carefully you shoul...

My dogs name is Chewbacca and he is cream, the red chow Rhenegade is my dogs so called brother and there is one more from this litter from 2006 which I have no idea who owns that one. The girls are lucky to have a nice cool floor to sleep on. I spend way too much time watching my puppy sleep. Although he sleeps most often on his side, sometimes he prefers more not-so-comfortable-looking positions.

My brother had a photo book printed (great gift idea, BTW) for Thor's first month here. The last photo in the book is captioned "The End" and catches him in the act of pooping...not exactly something most people would want to see here, but the look he gives the camera is pretty funny. Thes...
