Re: Chow diagnosed with Entropion
I would get a second opinion, the first vet we went to told us Rio had entropia and wanted to operate. We went to another vet (not because of the entropia diagnosis, the vet was an @ss) anyway, the new vet inspected Rios eyes at great length and said she could not see any sign of entropia and instea...

Aww poor guy, did he maybe pick up a skin infection when he was at the kennel? Or maybe he was around some new plants that didn't agree with him.

Re: 3 month old chow teething question (double canine teeths
Dogs do not lose teeth like humans, whilst we can adapt our diets around a lost tooth while the new one is comin in, dogs can't. Dogs look like sharks (two rows of teeth) for a while until the new tooth is capable of chewing food or in the wild, ripping through flesh. On the rare occasion that the b...

Re: mats behind ears
I haven't had this problem with Rio, but I have matting problems with one of my Ragdolls, he has very dense fur and gets matts under his armpits!!! I use to just cut them out but the fur always grew back a little oddly, now I us the furminator on him, and the matts can now be mostly combed out witho...

Re: drinking water
I too have this problem, and by I, I actually mean Rio, he is coming up for 7 months and has had a permanently wet chin and neck since we got him. I have tried a bandana but it doesn't really help. I tend to rub him down with a towel and if it gets grubby I make up a jug of doggy shampoo and clean h...

Re: Male chow owners,HELP!!!!
He has now settled back down, like I said with my last post. I could walk him for 6 hours and it has no impact on him whatsoever!!!! He is just pushing his luck at the moment but we are all standing firm with him. I have 5 children so I know how to handle 'tantrums' he does do as he is told on most ...

Re: Chow becomes anxious in public
You have much more experience than me when it comes to Chows, but here goes anyway. I kinda had a similar problem with Rio as regards walking the way I wanted, new areas freaked him out and he dug his heels in. I then started taking out a bag of treats on walks, he is very food orientated. Slowly I ...

Re: Recommended amount of protein for chow pup ? :-)
Hi there, Burns is good for puppies and dogs and cats for that matter! I use Burns for Rio and he loves it, the protein I found was mid-range, some puppy foods have ridiculous protein levels in them. You say you are feeding four cups per day, that seems like an awful lot, Rio has 370gms per day whic...

Re: Male chow owners,HELP!!!!
Thanks for the word of caution Mike, duly noted, an update on Rio, it took me one night to get him to quit his night-time play in the garden!!! He woke me up at 2am so I went in the room and told him to quit it and it was bedtime, same again at 4am, he then decided to sleep until around 7am. I got u...

Re: how much should I feed my chow puppy?
I read somewhere (can't remember where) that you should feed 1 cup of food per 50lbs of weight, twice per day. If giving treats this should be taken from the overall calorific value.
