Re: How to stop aggression or be more friendly to people
@JillZ - start grroming with your hands while your sitting around, especially feet and tail. After awhile you can work some real brushes in, patience and persistance. Your going to get push back, work through it. Same with bathing and vet. Our big guy hates the vet. That said he accepts it is necess...

Re: How much excercise is too much?
Forever. We travel a lot with our fur kids, Florida, North/South Carolinas, Georgia, New York, Pennsylvania, Main and of course here in Canada through Manitoba, Ontario (where we live), Quebec, New Brunswick, PEI, Nova Scotia so far. They go all day, everyday, they love to play in the ocean, lakes, ...

Re: How to stop aggression or be more friendly to people
Just be calm and give him some space. Once the realization comes your not a problem trust will take over. I have a large male here that from they day we picked him up as a puppy to his current 10yrs of age has no interest in people petting or groping him. Strangers can go to hell. That said, every o...

Re: Males fighting
This is rather normal activity. When ShenLung 85lbs was growing up with his sister FengHuang 65lbs he always challenged her, even though she was Supreme Ruler of the Known Universe and would remind anyone who thought otherwise. It was violent, but over quickly usually, and the outcome was never in d...

Re: "Smushing" his face on things?
To that degree this is a new one. If your vet doesn’t think it’s an issue your good, just a lot of smushing to come. Ours tend to only do that to dead animals and other predator urine/feces with the intent of eliminating the competition.

Re: Adopting a Senior Chow with Children
Well we foster rescue chow's and we introduce them to lots of kids daily, never seen an issue. They will like/dislike anyone just like people do. Our FuShiLu doesn't like kids in general, but plays with several on the street she has deemed acceptible. ShenLung has never been fond of them but doesn't...

Re: HELP! How to introduce a new puppy of a different breed
We have two chowlings, we foster rescue chows and babysit many neighbourhood fur kids when their parents go away for holiday. Nobody died yet, everyone became friends, played rough, yelped, played more. I really don't think a problem exists outside you. If your stressed yours will be and that will b...

Re: Male or female as second dog (puppy)?
I'm trying to be 'nice', but your statements imply issues beyond others to help. We don't know what kind of person you really are, specifically calm, so you can be the best Chow Chow owner possible. But not neutering the current fur kid is asking for issues, so why bother putting pressure on two fur...

Re: Why my chowchow is small compared to other chow
Why was ours large??!!! Hahaha, we had 2 tiny ones and a large one as puppies, both little ones grew to 65lbs of lean muscle and the big one is 85lbs of the leanest power muscle we've seen. Enjoy them while small, it doesn't last.

Re: Salmon Oil & Coconut Oil for Chow Chow
Well we seem to be lucky with coats, of course tossing them a salmon is how they prefer it. ;) We feed the flash frozen foods with lots of good meats and some veggies our guys could pass on that except sweet potato, they love that. Throw in a steak or two a month (grass fed local), some chicken (gra...

Re: Chow + Children
Some of you scare the crap out of us. Chows are great with kids, plenty of our neighbours agree. Some kids do rub them the wrong way and Chows usually just stay away from them. FuShiLu likes some really dislikes others and some are rough with her, she seems to prefer them. ShenLung ignores them all....

What??? Old, ShenLung would disagree totally, at 9 yrs he is extremely healthy and can still beat FuShiLu to a fix, rabbit, etc., with little issue. Love, it makes a difference.

Re: Help with getting two chow chows!
Not sure what some are suggesting, we had two siblings, yes they fought especially during the terrible two's, what siblings don't? When FengHuang passed away the breeder told us to watch ShenLung for signs of loneliness and despair. It took months to find FuShiLu whom he loved from the moment her li...

Re: My Chow Chow keeps getting attacked by other dogs
That's strange. No dog has every really challenged much less attacked our chows. However this is not as much a dog issue as an owner issue. Report those people to your local by-law, they would screw you over in a heartbeat.

Re: Is snoring normal
Chows snore. Period. Anyone thinks they are unhealthy is not aware of the breed. I have 2 right here in perfect health thundering away. They run down a fox at the drop of a hat, jog all day in the heat without a care in the world. They see the vet annually, perfect health. They snore. The big fella ...

She does sound like she is adapting well. For you husband, no loud voices, calm, solid commands and guide her through to completion. Persistence, you win by out lasting patience. Once it clicks she will love you and respect him. We have had several rescue chows (fostered) though here now and all tur...

Yup sounds normal. But you do have to keep in mind that once you have a new puppy your going to have set the pecking order. If Tai is 'yours' brewing that bond will not go well if you don't take charge of the situation.

Re: Biting issue
I agree with the above statement, FuShiLu did this, we'll still does at times. I always attempt to put my whole hand/fist in the mouth or at the very least gab lower jaw pressing a finger thumb down on the tongue. The goal is to provide a not so enjoyable response.
