I do....she gets various oils and joint supplements. She just looks a mess at the moment. I hope the new food helps.

Re: Should I keep my chow puppy
I would check out several trainers and ask about their methods. It is most important that every thing is done by positive reinforcement and that the trainer understands that a chow is never going to be like a spaniel or a collie in that they wont always be looking for how they can please. A chow wil...

Re: Why is my chow chow's fur short? 1st time dog owner
Your puppy is one 100% adorable and such a lovely colour. :D You can make your puppies ears stand up if you want by taping the two sides together for a week or two....this doesn't hurt them but allows them to get used to that position. It is almost always successful and many breeders have to do this...

Re: New chow pup
You have a beautiful baby chow there that sounds very typically chow. Mine live with two cats and get on fine. The trick is to have bits of the house that only the cats can go in and one day they will come out and tell him to behave when they get brave enough. We use a pet gate on the stairs and the...

I looked at the pics first before I read the post and was thinking your girl looked a tiny bit like a Pomeranian....not suggesting thats what the mix is  There is just a little look of somethin...

Re: Should I keep my chow puppy
Hello and welcome. What a beautiful puppy :D As Rory's dad says cute is not a good enough reason to keep a puppy but you sound like you have thought things through. I wish you good luck and hope we will see plenty more pics. Just remember as well that baby puppies bite and chew everything. My Brambl...

Re: New Chow Owner - a few questions. Advice much appreciate
Well done asking questions and getting prepared before hand. :D I use a slicker brush and do what is called line brushing. It is very very important to get down to the skin with your brushing it allows the air to circulate keeping them warm or cool depending on the season and also goes a long way to...

Re: Grain Free Kibble?
None of our UK pet food companies seem that keen on grain free so I have to buy US varieties that find their way over here. I am at present moving all mine on to Taste of the Wild salmon and potato. I am astonished when I look at all the US varieties available and how few we can buy. Izzie and Isla ...

Re: New Member with New ChowChow
I would echo everything Ursa's Daddy said. You need to build trust above everything else. Lots of positive reinforcement. Reward every good behaviour. One good tip is to keep half his meal time kibble in a bag at your waste and call him to you and give him some so he learns his name and every time h...

Re: Showing bite
Mine all get a treat at bedtime. It's a tiny treat but they look forward to it like it was a meaty bone! So to get that treat they have to walk up to me and "stand" then walk perfectly placed at my side and "turn" and walk back at my side "stand" again then I say "...

Re: Izzie says hello \:D/
Thank you Maikinda and Rory's Dad. She has a wonderful coat but it is a little sparse at the moment. I have never known her moult like she did this winter. We have had a very mild winter with about 1" of snow twice and three frosts. I don't know if it was the mildness but about six weeks ago iz...

Re: Barking
I think you are absolutely spot on with not wanting to break her trust. Chows are all different. Izzie had the use of a citronella collar as a younger lady as she used to just stand and look at us and bark because she could. She is not a nervous chow and just wants to make her feelings heard but som...

Re: Dog food could be making my chow sick :(
Does bear actually have kidney stones? If not why is the vet suggesting a food that prevents them. Better to get your chow onto a good food that they are happy and healthy on and there will be no need to worry about kidney stones. Kidney stones are generally caused either by Uric acid or calcium bui...

Re: About the get a Chow
It is not so much will your chow get on with children but more do your children get on with chows and your other pets? I have to say that it may all work out fine but if it were me I would not get a dog of that size with a three year old in the house. Most puppies (and I'm guessing it's a puppy due ...
