Thank you Kiwani. I can do that including the food as she is fed only kibbles and Nature's Balance Lamb(the big sausage looking package) as training treats(baits). She will eat from my hand more readily than from a bowl. Altho up to now, she seems to be doing the NILF on me, looking at me like where...

Help! LEO throwing a tantrum!
I think this is an alpha issue. But I need help/directions in dealing with it. Please help. LEO is usually very sweet. However, she sometimes throws a tantrum at me. This is what happened. She sees a dog at her favourate Cafe, where the water bowl is. The dog is tied & on its own. So we get clos...

My, my, what a colourful discussion you've all been having! I never had any other breed so I can't compare chows to other dogs and I don't think I will own any other breed, BUT, here are the characteristics I like about them. They aren't too lovey-lovey, they know when to show their love and would g...

Lou, Kiwani, thank you :D I checked them out on the internet. The hitch attachment looks v neat. We have a bike hitch attacher, so not sure if it will work. I shall have my hubby take a look at those sites over the WE. I tend to go for the lowest tech gadget  I am tecnically as well as vertica...

I might bribe my baby too much but it saves time. LEO is happy to sit on the floor of the front passenger seat w/ me or on her on when I'm driving. But I don't like it as it is not the safest way to travel. She also takes up the whole of the luggage space w/ the pet barrier on our SUV on longer trip...

There are no different types of chows, whether by country or size. BUT I used to subscribe to a chow magazine when I had our first chow back in the late 70's as I was growing up. The difference btw the UK champion and US were big!! The UK ones were more square and box shape, I suppose you can call i...

Our Tip for Getting Purple Kisses!!
I read that some of you are having difficulty getting kisses from your chowlings. Well, let me share my hubby's tip. SALIVA  Lick the back of your hand and show it to your baby. It usually works, even when its excited and play biting. Puppies go for regurgitated food from their mums, I suppos...

Oh, how funny   LEO will dive into my highheels if I put them out just before going out, note W/O her. I think she senses being left home alone. She will also take my in-house slippers when I'm out. She won't do it at night when I go to bed. It is always when I'm out. She sometimes plays w...

You are not alone. This is our story. LEO thinks I am her litter mate. Altho to a lesser extent now that she is 7m/s old, she would bite me in the arms and hug/mount my leg  I have yelped in a high pitch, told her no in a low voice, put a finger into her throat, bit her back, sprayed her w/ wa...

I'm really glad to hear that. For example, today, after a late-ish night(last walk 9:30), we went for an early morning walk at 6:30 for about an hour. This is about 3 blocks max of sniffing, refusing to go where I want to go, and giving into her, i.e. out of the park to Curbside Cafe, Baker Street B...

Does your chowling sleep all day?
LEO has always slept alot. I thought nothing of it as she is a baby. Now she is 7m/s old on the 18th, she is still sleeping almost all day. After late nights, I really have to make an effort to wake her up for her walks. i.e. sometimes we don't get out till high noon(to my hubby's envy).... Hmm, I s...

Chows are independant thinkers. Not a master pleaser. So they are difficult to train, or should I say plain stubborn  They also have long memory. I don't believe in bullying a chow into doing things. One needs to be patient as they are with you. I am hoping that things will click in to place o...

I had a scare this morning...
This morning we went for our regular walk and met a 5m/s old Australian Shepherd mix w/ her dad. It was a bit late, and we were the only ones there. I let Leo play w/ her off leash, for the third time ever. This is at the coner plot of Lombard Gate of Presidio. The dogs aren't technically allowed of...
