Re: My chows tail
Do a search on here for foods and you will see there has been a lot of discussion. It looks like a hot spot to me. You can also do a search on here for hot spots. There are some home remedies to use when one occurs. The biggest cause is either food allergies or a flea allergy. Good luck.

Re: Dog on a Brooklyn ledge
What is weird is that this is the second video of a chow being rescued from a ledge this year. I went back to make sure it wasnt the same video and it wasnt. The last one was in Chicago and was even hirer up. In this video it looks like the windows have bars on them so how did the chow get out there...

Re: Boogie -- drinking and urinating way too much
Well the liver test came back ok. His liver is functioning ok even though the tests show all of his enzymes are off. They consulted with even more specialists and the specialist from UC Davis says she is sure it is Cushing's even though some of the others don't think so. They think he may just need ...

Re: Boogie -- drinking and urinating way too much
He is on a holistic liver support but I am not sure what it is called. He has actually settled down on his water drinking. He had an accident in the house last night and this one actually smelled a little like urine instead of pure water which has been what he was going. He seems a little better tod...

Re: Our Chowgirl Shelly
Poor girl. It is so sad to hear she is declining even further. Is there anything the vet can give her to help with mobility? My Fozzie was not able to walk well and had many other health issues. He got a few different meds (I can't remember them right now but I think one was a steroid) and it actual...

Re: Boogie -- drinking and urinating way too much
They did some more tests and consulted with some specialists and they are saying even though the test for Cushing's was positive they don't think that is what Boogie has. He went in today to be tested for liver failure. Out of all the possibilities this one is the worst so I am really hoping this is...

Re: Boogie -- drinking and urinating way too much
Well, he started the meds last Sunday and all was well until last night. Last night he started drinking even more water and he peed in the house 3 times in the middle of the night. In the early morning he started throwing up and was shaking so I rushed him to the vet. They thought he was having an &...

Re: Boogie -- drinking and urinating way too much
Thank you for the replies. I just went to pick up his meds Lysodren (Mitotane) and am having a hard time finding it in stock. And it is quite pricey. I misread the online prices as per bottle when they are per pill. He is going to have to take this medicine for the rest of his life too but h...

Re: Boogie -- drinking and urinating way too much
We finally have a diagnoses. He has Cushing's. The vet said his tumor is on his pituitary gland so we can't do surgery. He will have to take meds starting on Sunday to shrink the tumor. Hopefully all will go well.

Re: Size doesn't matter
My Pekingese, Teekie, will start a fight with any dog no matter the size. He jumps up and bites their faces. I have seen him stand on his hind legs with his front paws on the bigger dog's face forcing the other dog to make eye contact while he growls at them. I don't "let" him do this but ...

Re: Boogie -- drinking and urinating way too much
Boogie is still the same. I guess it is not leptospirosis since the antibiotics aren't helping. The test they did to try and exclude Cushing's came back inconclusive. We had an appointment to do an in depth Cushing's test on Saturday but the medicine they needed for the test had expired so we have t...

Re: Boogie -- drinking and urinating way too much
Thanks for your thoughts. The ultrasound showed everything is fine. I guess they fully expected to find a tumor. They just didn't tell me before hand. They decided they needed a chest X-ray to rule out cancer in his chest so we did that and that was fine too. They are testing his urine for Cushing's...

Re: Boogie -- drinking and urinating way too much
The vet mentioned possibly Cushing's and Leptospirosis. He doesn't have any of the additional symptoms for either so she cant be sure. He did get vaccinated for Leptospirosis but I am not ruling it out as a possibility. He did have a thyroid test which came back slightly off but they said not enough...

Boogie -- drinking and urinating way too much
In the past few months Boogie has been drinking a lot of water and he has been having accidents in the house. It was happening mstly at night but seems to be appening more frequently. The first couple of times he urinated in the house I didn't know what it was because it didn't smell. i just thought...

Re: Our Chowgirl Shelly
I am sorry that Shelly is not doing so well. I remember meeting her at Chowfest. It is so hard to see them struggle in their old age. I am glad the vet doesn't think it is that serious at this point. Hopefully her dizziness can get under control so she can start to eat more. I will keep her in my th...

Re: Help! Rude Puppy
I have very little experience with females and have never had an intact female so I don't have much to offer there. I have had up to 4 males at a time though so I do know a little about fights. First off, as I am sure you know, don't put your hands in or you will get bitten. If they are outside when...

Mine want to get the birds in our yard too. They sit there like cats stalking the birds. Of course my chows are kind of clumsy so when they do make their move there is no way they will catch one.

I actually didn't know this. I agree there is a difference between Muslims and extremists as others have posted but I understood Cam Atis was directing the post at the extremists. I didn't find it offensive. I do have a question though if anyone knows the answer, in countries that are primarily Musl...

Re: Chow Chows and cats
I know this post is about chows with high prey drive but I actually want to talk about the opposite. I have been amazed with all of my recent fosters how they either ignore my cat or want to be by him. My cat is not friendly to anyone or anything. He tolerates us because we can open the cans and cha...

Mine think they are lap dogs too. They will jump up on me when I least expect it. Boogie especially likes to sit on my lap when I am outside on my fold up chair. It is just a matter of time before we fall through.
