Oh yes, Rogan was raised by Dasher - the OCD cleaning cat. Dasher taught both dogs how to be good, clean cats at a very early age. Since Chows are so catlike anyway, I don't really think about Rogan doing it. But when the rottweiler starts up, well, that's very funny. When he was youn...

Hair balls?

:?: Can a Chow get hairballs? Rogan gags and on occasion vomits. He's done this forever (since I got him at 8 weeks old) and there is nothing medically wrong with him. He'll go weeks without doing it and then cough, gag, vomit and everything is back to normal. Any ideas?

Rogan's vision has always been miserable. He's great with strangers approaching him, but part of that is because I take command of the situation pretty quickly. :D If kids are moving in quickly, I will step in between them and tell them how to pet him - under the chin, always. He is only touched on ...

My Rogan is a cream. He has a pink "Winter" nose and chocolate colored eyes. White toe nails as well! 8) He's also 75 lbs. and 22 inches tall at the withers (can you say, OUT OF STANDARD? ). But he's a chow and I love him!

Rogan has, on several occasions, done this. Always favoring the rear left leg. Our vets, a long time ago, said that he had a bad patella - like luxating patella; I think she may have even used that term. Over the years, we've kept him on suplements and that seems to help, but every once in a while, ...

I have trained two dogs simultaneously, but one was a rottie and the other my chow. Rogan (chow) was 7 months old when Nina (rottie) moved in. She was only 5 weeks old when she moved in... too young I know but it's a long story. In my experience, what you need to do is one of two things: 1. another ...

:D So true! I always tell Rogan that I'm leaving and approximately when I'll be back. (Tonite, 4 days, etc...) Nina could care less -- the rottweiler just wants a body to love. I started doing this when Rogue was young - he would take his, shall we say, anxiety over a missing mom, on my husband. Eri...

Rogan is a very picky eater. He skips meals all the time; probably once or twice every 2 weeks. He's very polite about it - he just sits down and looks up at us, as if to say, "You want me to eat THIS?" We're on a tight meal schedule because of the rottweiler -- she will eat ANYTHING that ...

First, thank you for rescuing the Chowling. My heart breaks when I hear that story, because you are probably that baby's first postive human contact. The only advice I can give you is have alot of patience. Sit on the floor and just let him come to you. The key, IMO, is to appear uninterested....

Incense is a good description of it! Rogan especially has it when he is excited. Almost like a musky scent. My husband calls it "Duppy Poof" :? but it is a definite Chow thing. Unlike my rottweiler, who just plain stinks! Good luck with your new darling! Being chosen by a Chow is an honor ...

Signed it! And passed it on to friends of mine not on the board. This is frightening. Pits aren't dangerous - some owners are. I understand that there is talk that they are trying for rottweilers next. Sad.

I don't know anything about the eyes; I'm not a breeder and would never pretend to be. What I do know is that your chowling is BEAUTIFUL!!! What a baby! It makes me remember when Rogue was a puppy. Lots of luck.

If it's a dry dog food Nina (our rottie) has been on it. We've had her on supplements, BARF, you name it we've done it. I'm sort of a twisted expert on IBD and allergies in rottweilers. That's why I was so surprised when I didn't even think about it with Rogan. He barked yesterday, at the ro...

Rogan hates water. He always has, he always will. When I give him a bath, he stands on three legs and rotates the legs that he stands on! He will not walk through sprinklers (he goes around them) or go outside in the rain. On December 27, 2003, we were in the process of relocating to Apollo Beach. A...

I took him to the vet and of course, the vet found nothing. Rogan wouldn't (or couldn't) cough -- he is trained on command to speak but chose not to. (Ah, chows! :? ) The vet did an exam and said his heart is strong and his lungs are clear. He did mention the possibility of an allergy as our 7 year ...

Hello! My Rogan did that once. We left him at a boarding kennel for 36 hours and he refused to have a bm or urinate the entire time! As soon as I picked him up, he immediately went and we haven't had that situation since. Now, if it is raining outside, he will NOT go outside. It doesn't matter how l...
