Finicky eater
So when I got my first chow Tiberius, he free fed when he chose because he was kind of like my cats. A little finicky. But no big deal. Now I have Elsa who has been goofy with her food from the start. I finally thought I had her normal... But then now she doesn't want to eat. It's like she distracts...

Oils?
I give my chows salmon oil in their food to help with their skin and coats. I hear that coconut oil is really effective. Anyone know which is better for your dog or more effective? Maybe you have an experience or personal opinion? I'm all ears!

Erm... I have it pre-buttoned and slip it over like a collar and then strap it. Had to do it often enough they stopped caring.

Same here with the tug toys. Though my two are not good at tug with other dogs because of it. Still things get messy with serious tuggers

Dog dominant with toddler
All good advice Rory's dad. I just know the I had an issue with Ty mouthing and nipping with play and it had gotten worse after he got his adult teeth in and despite the training that adolescent stage kicked in where he suddenly forgot things. And it hurt me, so my concern was if it was allowed to c...

They are usually. I get comments on Ty about how he's the nicest chow they've met... But at times he messes that up when another dog rubs him the wrong way. He lets people love on him there though and also has to be a total ham and throw himself into barrel rolls on the ground. Elsa is learning now ...

They can still build a relationship, just no mouthing. To be fair to the puppy, correct your daughter also when she encourages this. The running around the room should probably cease too just because it's probably enacting her prey drive which in turn makes her excited enough to mouth. It's not the ...

Chows can be great with kids. There's a whole section in the photos devoted to it. You're off to a great start, but I will say this. Letting lady mouth her will only make this worse later. She is a puppy right now and it may not hurt as much...but if this continues she will do it when she's grown an...

It used to be when I took Ty to the dog park or other places people would question whether he was a full chow because of his coloration. He's got a color similar to a golden retriever with a hint of red, but warm like honey. He wasn't as fluffy yet either. Now when I take both he and Elsa anywhere s...

Cream Chow Chow question
Yes, my girl has a lighter purple tongue probably because she is such a light cream. She also has two very small light pink spots on her tongue that are now less noticeable.

Cream Chow Chow question
I really do so hate the US cream standards. While it wasn't important to me, Elsa had a blackish nose, we'll say dark nose, when she was younger... But now the sides are creeping up brown. And i imagine it is possible for the black noses to have cream noses...

Elsa in first heat :/
They wanted to go ahead with the spay anyways, if she checked out ok, but were going to charge me extra. I found out how extra tonight and though it makes me nervous having an intact female around going through her heat I'm happy she's going through the changes first. I can image hormone levels goin...

The dog run is kinda like a mini dog park. She's supervised with me out there and typically we are out there alone or with the already fixed dogs of my friends. We aren't staying out long for the reason in your first paragraph and also the heat has spiked this week (summer's last hoorah?) Sent from ...
