Re: Chow pup having trouble getting up.....
Depending on the outcome I would be talking to your breeder as well. Hip and elbow problems are normally linked to poor breeding.

Re: Chow pup having trouble getting up.....
Does your breeder have the hip and elbow scores for the parents. You want the score for each hip and not just the combined score. This may give an indication of where the problem is.

Re: Spay yes or no?
Yes you should spay. There is some debate though on when this done. The general feeling is wait until they are through there major growth phase as desexing affect hormone production. Choose a vet that has experience with chows.

Our 2 yr old boy eats about 2.5-3 cups a day plus a raw chicken wing. He is about 70lbs. We feed taste of the wild and quality better than quantity.

Re: Flat coat indeed!
Our black boy suffered hot spots about 18months ago and his coat is still recovering. It has mostly returned except for a patch in the middle of his saddle. It seems to take a long time for there coats to come back after an event like this.

Re: Is this the "awkward stage"?
Just need to make sure he is not developing a food allergy or similar. Our boy started loosing his coat at this age and he quickly became bald in some parts. It turned out that his puppy food contained wheat and corn filler.

She is probably masking her scent. Being a predator they rub the side of the face(maine) in something on the ground, usually poo or wee of native animals to mask their scent so they can hunt more effectively. ie they smell more like the environment.

Hi Hugo. We have our second chow now. Our 12 yr red coat died last christmas. We have black boy(Jet) now who 18months. We had food allergy problem when he was pup. Our vet put him on Science Diet. Re: Squat or leg lift?
We had not planned to desex our boy at that age but he deveolped food allergy and required an e-collar to stop him licking the sores. Vet said to desex at same time so he would lick the wound. I wish the vet had given us all the information.

Our boy was nuetered at 4 months and never learnt how to *Censored Word* his leg. He just squats. Our previous lifted his leg on everything and marked his teritory but he was nuetered at 10months. Victory s 'explanation makes sense.

Its relatively easy to get them to sit on command but to get them stay outside a store for 15mins would be a challenge to say the least.

Re: The price of a dog bite
Australia is not too far behind the US in this respect. We are becoming a very litigious society and if your dog bites someone you expect big trouble. In this state on top of possible legal action your dog will be re-classed as dangerous costing you many hundreds of dollars in registration fees plus...
