Re: Life just keeps getting harder

I'm much better health wise, my doctor told me two weeks ago that my condition, (Diabetes) is now under control he couldn't believe how good I'm doing. I got a part time job at Wal-mart...worked there for three days, but it wasn't for me too much standing at long periods that I'm just not up to yet....

Re: The Guard

Oh yeah. I live alone, on the first floor of a building with a woods 20 feet behind my patio door. There is no fence, my windows are all right there, easily accessible to the ground. Provides a nice fire exit or a good entry for anyone up to no good, except for the watchful eyes, ears and noses of m...

Re: Resource guarding

I agree with Rory's Dad. "Leave it" is just that, don't touch. Rewarding them for doing it is great, but using another treat for that reward is not always possible. A reward can be as little as a good scratch, that's what I used to teach my two the leave it command. I did it because I didn...

Re: cream chows? pink nose?

Because the gene that causes correct pigmentation to the nose is tied to the one for coat color. Cream chows just don't have the right amount of pigmentation and so their noses fade to pink or coral colored. Blue chows often have what's called "self colored" noses, in that instead of being...

Re: My Chow Chow's Strange Behavior?

Me & Tess is right, at 6 he is not aging, he is in his prime, he will be until around 10. His first behaviors are pure dominance acts. Because he is intact, and with the trying to escape I'd say that somewhere within twenty miles, (yes I said 20) of you there is a female in heat. Getting in a ba...

Re: Chow Chows fallen in popularity

One the one hand their fall in popularity may help keep them away from puppy mills. But it won't from BYB, If the number of chows worthy of being bred falls until only show breeders have them and only sell to other show breeders mostly, those puppies who should be neutered/spayed because they are pe...

Re: Bad luck???

Yes, I've heard that one before. Also that their bite is poisonous because of the black tongue and mouth...pure bigotry if you ask me. Just like black cats are bad luck and black dogs have a really hard time getting adopted... It's just plain stupid, but there you go.

Re: Help to stop licking

My late Chow Kamie was a mouth licker to other dogs. I felt it was her Motherly instinct to keep her two other pack mates clean. She would also lick discharge from around the others eyes. Zoey, Kamie's offspring now licks Leo my Males mouth sometimes, though not as much as her Mother Kamie did. My ...

Re: Help to stop licking

No, Louie shouldn't contract anything, unless Andre has some parasite or other. But that wouldn't cause this behavior, so he should be okay.

I managed to get almost all the money I needed to stay, so they let me because I'm working on it. The county is really being a pain, I keep getting told I need this form or that form, or another. My nurses and clinic are all asking when the medical assistance will click in... I'm still trying to get...

Re: Help to stop licking

Does Andre have any tooth decay or other mouth issues. If the drool carries the order of disease it will cause Louie to want to lick it. And remember Louie's sense of smell is 100 times, (or more) what yours is. It could even just be that the drool is causing a skin infection around Andre's mouth. T...

Re: Lepto and Chows

From what I read, there are many, many different variations of this virus and the vacc only protects against some of them. The real reason so many vets are jumping on this band wagon is the disease is transferable from pets to people through the same vectors as from animal to animal, (urine and bloo...

Re: Lepto and Chows

I found this information on the vac and the virus. http://www.vetstreet.com/care/leptospirosis-vaccine-for-dogs My two have never had it, I'm more worried about anti-freeze being in any standing water they come across, so they are not allowed to drink from such. And they don't swim in lakes. They do...

Re: Fatal pitbull attack:It's the owner not the dogs

Yes it is sad. It has happened here before and with other breeds as well as pit bulls. It is a part of a subculture here to own large and aggressive dogs. You can not say that there is one American culture, there isn't. There are many cultures here, and some of them are aggressive. A lot of time if ...

I worked that job until the end of the contract, just six weeks, and managed to pay the rest of Nov, all of Dec and Jan, rent. Re: Whitby needs to lose some weight

I normally have the opposite problem of them being too thin. But I am very careful about how many calories they get each day and I don't usually feed treats. They get between 2.5 and 3 8 oz cups of food per day, which is 965-1158 calories per day. Normally the lower amount is during the summer when ...

Growling and snarling at strangers is not acceptable, under any circumstances unless the stranger is threatening you or her. Re: Help! Rude Puppy

Spaying asap might help with this. Females are more territorial than males, because they are looking for a safe place to raise puppies. Some are far worse than others. The younger one sounds like she is more naturally dominant, she's pushing for two reasons, one coming into heat, and two because of ...
