Re: Information .. If anyone can help me

Awhile ago a lady from Gulfport, Mississippi called me about Brutus. She has chows and may be able to help you or knows someone who can. I didn't write down her name but just saved her number in my contacts on my phone. Her number is 228-343-2279 and you can say that she called me if you like, I'm u...

Re: Trim or not Trim

I know long time show breeders that shave their dogs in the summer and they say their chows hair comes back just fine. They seems happier too because it cooler. Bathing and grooming would get a lot of fur out but if you want to trim I say go ahead. I live in Minnesota and we only get an average of 2...

Re: Brutus Earned His AKC Championship

We just got back from Nationals and had a great time. We went last year without Brutus but entered him in Best Of Breed this year. Didn't do anything but learned a lot more about grooming and was fun to be in the ring. It is always exciting to see who wins and to talk to chow people from all around ...

Re: Brutus Earned His AKC Championship

I agree with everything you wrote Rory's Dad. The only thing I would add is chows can be finished by their owner but many others breeds need a professional handler. Chows many be hard to get enough together for a major but Golden Retrievers need about 17 males for one and that would seem almost impo...

Re: Brutus Earned His AKC Championship

Nothing wrong with that pic...Brutus looks great. I question your tie choice however, no just kidding. Congrats to you both. As someone once said to me 'he earned it'. Getting out there and having your Chow undergo all those inspections takes a lot of commitment on your part and a lot of patience o...

Re: Brutus Earned His AKC Championship

There are many people on Team Brutus and it couldn't of happened without everyone's help. Not the best picture but then I'm not a professional handler. Don't really care about GCH points so he's pretty much done. Not a sad day because we stop showing him for about 18 months before bringing him back ...

Brutus Earned His AKC Championship

We had a very nice weekend in Iowa where Brutus needed 2 points to finish but won another 3 point major under Judge Ms Terri Lyddon yesterday. It couldn't of happened without the friends we have made along the way. I really enjoyed learning how to groom and handling Brutus in the ring. It just shows...

Re: Collar Issue

I was at a show last weekend and went around to the vendors to check out the rolled collar selection. Only one seller had them and it was the same one I bought online. After 8 months using it I'm very happy with it for the lack of hair breakage but also the metal buckle seems a lot more secure than ...

Re: Collar Issue

Having a rolled collar shouldn't slip off if on tight enough. Sometimes I'm a little lazy tightening it around the neighborhood. At shows it's another thing and I wouldn't risk it if I wasn't confident it would stay on.

Re: Collar Issue

The brand I found on ebay has Circle T stamped on the buckle. They are made by COASTAL and are the Rolled Latigo Collar line. Brutus's is 24 inch but I had to drill a couple holes to make is smaller like you would a belt. I could of bought a smaller one but like it because most the flat part is afte...

Re: Collar Issue

Here is Brutus's collar, bought it ebay and am very happy with it. It comes off when he's not outside. When we go up to our cabin in the summer he is outside a lot. I would recommend one to everyone. http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk232/ottertailguy/C22BBF15-DB01-4CFD-BDDE-D98ED5F8FD6E_zps0uqoa0...

Re: Brutus wins his first major:)

We just got the photo from Brutus's 2nd major because we moved this summer and it was sent to our old address. The photo doesn't have the ribbon because i didn't have it with me at the time. No shows since but will update when he gets his Ch. http://i281.photobucket.com/albums/kk232/ottertailguy/006...

Lets See Your Chow Chow's Selfie

My wife sent this photo of Brutus to me while I was at work and it made me laugh. Later I thought it would be cool to see others so that's why I started this topic.

Re: Handler Classes

Cindy, you have done everything right starting with of course getting Chance. Having 10 points with 1 major after 4 months is great. When Brutus and I were at that point we were just hoping to have another chow entered at each show. After almost a year we had 3 points out of a possible 4. Wasn't eve...

Liking water might be in Chance's bloodline. I know someone with a chow that is his half brother(same dad) that loves water too. He came from your breeder also.

Re: Chows and Water!

I bet a lot of Chow in Texas like water since the summers there are so long and hot. Last year in Minnesota we only had two 90 degree days. Normally we have 15 but that still is a lot less than Texas.

Congrats on being 10th on the list filled with mostly chows that have either their Ch or GCH title already. I did get the entry form for Eukanuba last week in the mail but will have save that trip for another year.

Re: Brutus wins his first major:)

Cindy, My only suggestion is at your next show on Saturday, ask all the other chow owners if they want to go out for lunch or dinner afterward depend on what time you're showing. Our last shows the breeder asked everyone and everyone came. I was told that is how it use to be and it made it way more ...

Re: Brutus wins his first major:)

Great news to report from this weekend, Brutus won his second major today. I was very happy and couldn't believe it when the judge pointed at me saying we won. Rory's Dad is right about networking and communication is the key in showing chows but it's the friendships I've made along the way that are...
