If it lasts him half a day I think one is more than enough... Apparently the ones you have are bigger than the ones I used to give him. So one per day is equal to 3 of those I used to have in size.. I keep reading too that rawhide is bad but all people give rawhide to their dogs here and no one get ...

Dog bone for Walter

The bones in the pic are the emergency rawhide bones... The healthy chews which I used (peanut butter and chicken) looked somewhat like these: 41XOI37isHL.jpeg But there are many other healthy alternatives not necessarily having the same recipe.. although he loved them and they are hard enough to ta...

Dog bone for Walter

CompressedRawhideChews.jpeg The smallest of these.... I read about nylabones that they are great too but they are not available in my country so I am not sure about them. And as a side note, my pup did not chew much on these when I used to give him the healthier ones. Each one lasted more than a we...

Hello Kevin, As a new owner myself I had this experience about 4 months ago.. And I tried every possible solution. The best I personally found was: 1- giving him edible chew bones 2 or 3 times a day. I gave him peanut butter and chicken sticks and each lasted between 30 mins and 2 hours depending on...

Do you understand your chow's body language?

After reading alot online and checking photos of dogs' body language, I came to realize that this general body language description does not fit my chow to some extent. His body language is minimal... and not so obvious, and most of the time clownish and funny. Here are 3 things he does the most, I ...

Re: My Puppy Won't Stop Nipping/Play Biting

Hmm that is quite interesting... it might be the case with my pup. Nipping when hungry. And as a side note, I took him to the vet today for his vaccination, and he told me what you previously said. 'He is one of the most strong willed chowchow pups I have ever seen.' As he bit him for giving him a p...

Re: My Puppy Won't Stop Nipping/Play Biting

Hi drewbear,

He is apparently very strong willed, he even started challenging my authority at this young age
His biting is slowly and gradually improving.

I am trying not to let him be very excited at any time..

when he is not excited he doesnt bite.

Re: My Puppy Won't Stop Nipping/Play Biting

Thank you Rory's dad.

I tried the yelp 1 month ago. It worked a couple of times but after that he started ignoring it completely.

I will give your second suggestion a try.

Re: My chow chow Tina is hyperactive...

Rory's dad, I was talking about the barking and whining after being crated or left alone. my dog learned to be silent when he is in his crate and now he loves it. Paying attention to the dogs whiny bark will reinforce this behavior and will make him dominant over a new unexperienced owner. As for th...

Re: My chow chow Tina is hyperactive...

Hi, Is it 2 week or 2 months old? In all cases, I presume the doggy house is too big. You must reduce the size of the house by filling it with boxes. she must have a space that barely fits her and allows her to stand, lay down and turn around. If she has more space than that, she will poop in it. I ...

Re: My Puppy Won't Stop Nipping/Play Biting

Hello, I have the same problem with my pup. I tried the firm no, yelling no, giving toys after the no, I give him play sessions and give him treats while I increase excitement and he doesnt bite. I have tried pushing my arm into his mouth... and NONE of it worked. He is 3.5 months now, its been a mo...

Re: Is my 13 week old pup too friendly with strangers?

Hello, Thank you for the detailed response. That was pretty much what I needed since I am a first time dog owner. Regarding the guard/attack dog, that was the main reason I chose this breed.. and Iam not planning on sending him for attack dog training. As I said in my last post, I want him to act on...

Is my 13 week old pup too friendly with strangers?

Hello, My pure bred puppy is well socialized and he loves people. And especially strangers. I got my chow because I read alot about this breed being aloof with strangers and his great natural guarding abilities. He has been with me for about a month now and I have not seen any sign from him that sho...
