Re: Therapy Chow

I have a what I call a West Virginia Chow. She can bark a big girl bark, but nobody can touch her, she moves backwards. She's generally quiet, her brother who we lost.. would have been perfect for therapy, he passed away at a young age never got a chance. He was the most mild mannered friendly fello...

Re: Take a big snootfull why don't you?

 Nem has to smell all visitors buttocks too. If your a new person he'll approach from behind the person, if that person spins around he runs. He'll attempt to get as close possible as quiet as he can be. And if me and my husband have been somewhere new when we arrive home Nem and our other chow...

Take a big snootfull why don't you?

Hi All- I'm sitting here in my computer chair Nem comes on over and plows his snout into my armpit and takes a wif. Guess he couldn't get quite enough, takes another whif, then another, then another. Until I guess he was satisfied. Then finally one last one big whif, then a big sigh. He's a rooter, ...

Re: 2008 RABIES Vaccine-JAVMA Report Adverse Reactions in Dogs

So is there a test to determine if your dog had an adverse reaction? I took my girl to the vet earlier this year and when we got home her leg was twitching. I noticed one of the side effects listed on this post was muscle twitching. I correlated it to overheating. Maybe I was wrong.

Loud stomach gurgling

Hi I think this is normal to hear sounds, it's lack of sound that is not good right? I thought Nem was holding something in his mouth or choking on something, but it was his stomach making sounds. I heard it from all the way from across the room! Acting normal otherwise. It went away after a half ho...

Re: Healthy 10 month old refusing to eat kibble

She's at it again she is now 15 months is going through a don't want to eat phase again. Seems to be a pattern. She had her first menses at 8 months her appetite was fine, then for two months after she didn't want her regular food except for the extra special food I was giving her to keep her weight...

Re: Wet Eyes

Darn right i've seen that before. That's what my vet said about my chow Adonis (God bless his soul) the vet said he had no tear duct or was blocked. His fur and skin was constantly moist and would get a stinky smell to it. Vet said to keep the skin clean as possible, had given us some eyedrops. Foll...

His ear could be blocked up with a chunk of wax . I had a ball of wax in my ear doctor had to suction it out I was deaf in that ear until he got it out. It could be freaking him out. Re: muscle twitching front leg

Wow you get muscle twitching from anxiety? Is it localized in one area or all over? I thoroughly and patiently felt her other muscles but they were normal, so it's just the one leg. She's a female so she doesnt have a super big lion mane, the twitch is visible because the fur just jumps right along ...

muscle twitching front leg

Hi - My 1.3 year old female Chow Chow's leg muscle (top of leg, on the front) is twitching. She's acting normal otherwise. The last time I noticed this is when she was losing her puppy coat she was hot and full of fluff that needed to be removed (so that day I brushed her and so the twitching stoppe...

Re: Healthy 10 month old refusing to eat kibble

Update! My girl is eating again with a vengeance. I'm lucky I didn't play tough guy with her as my instinct told me not to, I figured the vet said to not let her lose anymore weight. So I introduced an array of food to regain her interest. I found the foods she responded to and REALLY took an intere...

My girls breeder said all her chows had a special marking, the black tipped tail. As my girl is growing, she's 10 months, she black is near the base of the fur near the spine, with a big light cream tail. very adorable..

Healthy 10 month old refusing to eat kibble

I've searched these message boards for answers and have done all the tricks, at this point it's back and forth to the store searching for a food she'll be happy with. As far as dry kibble she used to eat it but now the last 3 months, she'll roll the kibble around in her mouth like she can't chew it ...

Re: Heat stroke

weenis, I would say if the sun isn't beating directly down than your're (safer) at dusk than when the sun is still up. I think I would do a shorter walk though. Like the previous person said, brush that undercoat COMPLETELY out so the skin can breathe and body temperature can regulate appropriately....
