Re: Miah left us on 11/17
I am so sorry. We lost our chow rescue, Loki, this summer and I know the pain you are feeling. Please take comfort in the fact you gave a rescue a second chance at life. Miah enjoyed a full life thanks to you.

Re: Chow + Children
It goes without saying that you should always supervise any dog and baby. Our chow, Loki, was already 9 years old when my daughter had our first grandson. They spend a great deal of time with us so I was concerned as Loki had never been with a baby. The first, thing we did was bring home a blanket ou...

Re: Things don't always work out the way you plan them but its okay. :)
Thank you for your thoughtful comments. I never thought I could find another chow to love but there was a chow needing a home and we needed that chow. We drive 1500 miles to get him and it was worth every mile. He is already great pals with our older chow, Frisco. Our home seems "right" ag...

Re: Things don't always work out the way you plan them but its okay. :)
I lost our rough coat chow, Loki, this summer. I was absolutely devastated. He was a rescue and he was such a handsome and proud dog. For a brief moment I thought about purchasing a puppy but I couldn't do it in good conscience. I searched for months and found another chow to love. Maybe the answer ...

Heartworm treatment
We just adopted a gentle male chow. He was found on the streets. Our most pressing issue is he is heartworm positive. The rescue had him on pill therapy but our vet has recommended treatment by injection. I am so worried about him. I hear the treatment is harsh with side effects. She is recommending...

Advice about adopting a rescue
As you may know, I lost our Loki this summer. I am lost without him and Frisco remains depressed. I found an eight year old chow needing a home. He is a male and I am hoping this might be a good fit for Frisco. Is adopting a chow this age a good idea? How do you think Frisco might react?

Thank for your comments.
It has been weeks, but it isn't easier. I have been looking into chow rescue organizations. In a way it feels disloyal to Loki but I can't seem to stop myself.

Re: I need your help
Thank you for you ur comments. We are taking it one day at a time. It breaks my heart. The other day we passed a golden retriever during our walk. He got so excited, it was from a distance, and I think he thought it was Loki.
We are trying to distract him And spend even more time with him

Re: I need your help
We actually had a family vacation last week at a little place we have in the mountains. It was a place that Loki loved and we never came without Loki and Frisco. We even had our daughters pit bull join us. I thought being around the family and another dog would help, but it was more of the same. Man...

I need your help
A few weeks ago we lost our beloved chow, Loki. We was 13 and beloved by all of us but he was particularly close to me. The grief is overwhelming but now I am faced with a serious problem. Shortly after we rescued Loki, we rescued a chow/Newfoundland mix, Frisco. He had been in an abusive situation ...

We lost Loki today
There are no words to express the pain. Many on this forum have experienced this sadness. After a long illness, Loki is gone at the age of 13. Although we have another dog, a mixed chow/ newfy the house seems eerily quiet. I reluctantly took Loki. Our son found him wandering the city, in poor health...

Re: Forever loving chowchow
I am so sorry for your loss. I have had many dogs over the years, all rescues, but nothing has stolen my heart like my chow, Loki. He is at least 13 and has quite a few health problems, so I treasure each day. We also have a chow/Newfoundland mix and a cat. You will know when the time is right for a...

Re: Chow Life changes
It is heartbreaking to see our proud chows struggle. Loki is at the point that he can't climb stairs and we must carry him to bed every night. A few years ago he would not have allowed us to do that. We must just do the best for them one day at a time. Hope that Shiloh shows some improvement soon!

Re: Chow Life changes
Absolutely. Keep up those walks as it does help their mobility. Loki has slowed down considerably. Our walk is more of a "sniffing" experience but I will do anything that makes him happy these days. We had a lengthy consult with our vet and have decided to put off liver surgery for now. Sh...

Re: Liver disease. Need advice
We had a conference with Loki's vet just a few days ago. She suggested we bring Loki in every few weeks to check both his blood work and either X-ray or ultra sound to see whether or not the liver tumor is growing and, if so, by how much. He has so many other issues she wants to monitor his urine pr...

Re: Liver disease. Need advice
Thanks, Laura. I have been doing a great deal of research. My husband and I have an appointment with Loki's Doctor later this week as I want to explore all our options in depth. We have made a list of questions and concerns. I just pray I make the right decision.

Liver disease. Need advice
On a routine check up at the Vet, our Doctor thought she felt something in Loki's abdomen. An ultrasound confirmed he had cysts on adrenal gland and spleen. There is also a tumor on the liver. Radiologist said there is no way of knowing if there is a malignancy unless we operate. Our Vet referred us...
