Petite No More!

I'm always going on about my little Lily and how she is between 33-35 pounds. She has a terrible dermatitis problem that expresses itself in frequent hotspots. Usually the vet just calls in a perscription, but she wanted to see her this time. The vet likes the animals weight...Holy Smokes! Lily cloc...

Re: Had to re-think Christmas decor

If something is on the floor, Dillon may, or may not pick it up. I had left a pair of scissors on the floor and he tried to pick them up, but will leave my socks alone, as a rule. I have a draft stopper that is a santa-cat I put out last week at the front door that Big D first growled and barked at,...

Re: Tess & Me

I have a couple suggestions. TLC Chow Rescue has this baby. http://www.petfinder.com/petdetail/24678126 While not an older animal, she has the bad luck of being black, and a mix. You could teach this sweetheart the ways of the 20 acre wood. Also, I think they currently have one of my Dillon's sister...

Re: Is Your Dog a Thief?

Dillon took one of my fuzzy slippers and put it in his toy stash upstairs a few weeks ago. I looked everywhere. It finally dawned on me to check his babies. Lily loves rolling on wet/damp towels, too. If she sees one in a pile on the floor, it is Nirvana. She would not deign to actually take one, ho...

Re: tongue troubles

Well, yes. Her tongue should be bluer. Also, for a cream, she is very light. I suspect she could have some samoyed in her. How could this happen? Maybe mamma escaped while in heat. Or, I could be dead wrong and it is just a pigment issue and she is a PB Chow. Frankly it is hard to tell at this point...

Re: Constant Licking

We have Lily leading the pack here, but have some issues with Big D trying to be second in command. Tanna is old and just wants to be left alone, but I think because she is not fearful of the things Mr Neurotic is, it makes him unconfident. He tried to boss Lily only one time that I am aware, and sh...

What a wonderful Yuletide gift! Iknow what uncertainty can do to your physical and mental health. You kept your chin up and your wits about you, and in the end it all worked out.

Re: is my chow chow going to get any bigger?

The Chow below my post is 7 years old and weighs 33-35 pounds. It has been thus since she was a year old. Unless you are going to show a Chow, the only thing that matters size-wise is that they are healthy. You have a pretty girl there. BTW, Lily is the Queen around here, and her shadow is a male Ch...

Re: Loss of Appetite

I've got a small female who maintains at 33-35 pounds. She is slim, but not horribly skinny. Chart wise, she is a small female, but healthy. The same is true for your male. Do not get another one yet. Be fair to the one you have and give him your attention. You look young in the photo. If you do not...

Prejudice-Free Zone

While at work yesterday, I was at the elementary school, and saw a pitbull at a short distance, waiting to go inside while the children were entering the school. From past experience with my daughter in school, I know they allow dogs and cats and other types of pets in for a kind of show and tell. I...

Re: I thought he was gone....

Your boy loves you and would come back...in his own time. Lily does the same thing. When she gets loose, she actually will zoom the house every few minutes to let me know she is around. I am already outside, of course, looking in her usual places of fun whilst free. The biggest concern of course, is...

Re: Worried/Nervous about leaving home ...

They will be just fine. They will definitely miss you, but at their age I would not anticipate any destruction. They have each other, and if they have access to the yard, they will do their business out there. A lot of their 'mommy routine' is actually prompted by you...meaning you are the one who i...

Re: A Run for My Money!

I have had dogs that stay in the yard and come on command and some that run with glee when they get free (though they will recall in the fenced yard)...and all points in between. It is not necessarily a failing of training. When Lily gets loose, I calmly call her. When she does not come, I get in th...

I'm sorry you have had these troubles. Sometimes we just have to step back and realize the best thing we can do is let someone else control the situation. Re: I can't do this!!

Adding number 4 may have put you over by 1. I have 3 in my house, 2 Chows and an aged Australian Cattle dog, Montana. Dillon, the newest one (damaged adult young male) will for some reason try and dominate the old female ACD. She is not aggressive at all and Dillon is actually #2 under Lily. He bite...

Was my first Chow from a BYB? Yes. Did I see the bigger picture then, as I do now? No Having a Chow that, for lack of a better comparison, has autistic behaviors, I hope will help me atone a little for being a part of the problem. He will never be normal, and frankly, I cannot imagine a lot of peopl...

Lily and Dillon are great together. He adores her and she loves to be his (tor)mentor. What is your girl's name? She looks to be black or possibly a blue. She does look to have rusting, which happens with some black Chows. There is a breeder in Georgia that used to be a member...not sure if he is still in the biz, he was looking to breed show quality Chows and at the time of his depar...
