Re: Jerky treats

Be careful of products that say made in USA, they may well be made with tainted ingredients shipped in from China. For example, Smokehouse makes Chicken Barz, some of which are made in USA with USA ingredients and some are made in USA but with imported products. The Smokeouse rep emailed this info t...

Re: flea treatment

Also in the midwest, USA. My vet recommends fleat and tick treatment year round, I choose to disagree. I have used Frontline on my dogs only in the warm months with no flea and tick problems. My older chow mix with arthritis sees an animal pain specialist vet (Dr. Ava Frick) and her stance is that d...

Oh My! Someone is very touchy. I do not recognize any personal affront to Christina in this chain but she is certainly behaving as though being attacked. Take a deep breath and relax!

Re: 6 month old

My Chow's back feet do not turn in, if anything out a bit. He is almost two. I suspect since her gait is OK, it's probably not a problem. Sweet of you to be concerned. = : )

Re: Have you ever left your chow home alone?

My male Chow and his best friend Chow mix sister are usually home alone 4 - 6 hours a day. We have even left them for overnights, with dog loving next door neighbors coming over morning, afternoon and evening to feed and love on them. We have a doggy door and fenced yard. I believe my Chow Chow spen...

Re: ROYAL CANIN FOOD

No, I dont think they hunted in rivers and rice paddies, I think they were thrown leftovers, fed what was available. All I know is, I've seen no evidence of any allergic reaction and, as stated, his poo is healthier looking now. I know they can have sensitive constitutions and this is what works for...

Re: What air temperature

Poor Baby! Really! I adopted a 13 month old male Chow Chow in January and crated him while we were at work just until we could be sure that he and his 10 year old chow mix "sister" would be ok together. The crate was in the living room with soft music on, near a window with Sis Suzy having...

Re: ROYAL CANIN FOOD

I have only had one purebred chow, others mixed. My purebred is primarily on Purina Pro Plan Salmon & Rice. We've had no hot spot issues but his poo is more consistent & healthy lookig on this food that any other I've tried. I pour a little low sodium, low fat chicken broth over it. He loves...

Re: about supplies help pls

I like Purina Pro Plan Salmon & rice for their delicate tummies. I use a melamine soup bowl & add about a tablespoon of low sodium, low fat chicken broth.

Re: Healthy dog food recipie

I cook 6 lb ground turkey and mix with 2 lb steamed broccoli and 2 lb steamed sweet potatoes. Into that I blend finely chopped apple and pour over about 1/2 cup olive oil. This is what my chow gets for breakfast and for dinner, Purina Pro Plan salmon & rice.

Re: your chow's best toy??

My 1 1/2 year old male chow, Buddy2, has no use for balls or fetch with me but does throw his stuffed toys up in the air with a twist of his head & will fetch those to re-throw & fetch again. If he is outside doing this, zooming follows. Indoors, he will tease his adoptive sister, Suzy, with...

Re: DNA Testing?

I adopted a 13 month old "chow mix" in January, his litter had been turned in as pups, all his siblings had been adopted. He had never lived in a home environment. He obviously had more chow in him than any chow mix I had previously adopted, full purple tongue. Just for grins, we got a DNA...

adopted chow, need advice re halter/grandchildren?

Three weeks ago I adopted at 13 month male red chow mix who had lived at an animal shelter his whole life. Never having been aware that there were such things as open faced chows, I didn't realize how much chow this guy has in him until I got home and started researching. He is a bit timid and comin...

Need advice my beautiful new boy, Buddy

On Buddy's 7th day here, he is came out of his shell and engaged my 9 year old arthritic 60 lb female chow, shitzu, aus shep mix in play. Well, it looked like play at first. So much loud low long growling came from each of them, I gave a loud AH AH!, they both immediately stopped and looked at me. T...

Re: 1st post with my new buddy, Boomer

I adopted a 2 year old dog that looks like Sheltie with a bit of chow mixed in. For grins, we picked up a DNA test kit at Petsmart, swabbed her mouth, mailed it in & got a really cool genealogy chart. Turns out she is mostly shitzy with a bit of aussie and chow mixed in. At 60 pounds I never wou...

my beautiful new boy, Buddy

Just 5 days ago I adopted a 1 year old male chow (mix?) from an animal shelter. His litter had been surrendered. Mom was full chow kept tied to a tree in a back yard (shame on them!) He has lived his whole life in the shelter. He looks like a full rough coat chow with a fox face, cinnamon in color, ...
