Re: Diet for Chow Chow (Philippines)

If you will buy from the US, that would cost too much (freight costs). Cassie is on Holistic Recipe - puppy even though she is already almost 2 years old. She does not like to eat much with the adult formulation. How did you know your chow is allergic to chicken? You can opt to cook for your chow us...

Re: Where have the others gone

Wokman from my end, I did get somewhat addicted to cc.org but it wanes and been busy so as much as I want to check everynow and then, it came to a point where I just could not find the time to answer. When I was new, I got some responses, some rough some kind. the kind responses kept me going and th...

Re: FOUND A CURE FOR MING'S STORM TERRORS?

Cristina, my sister have a dog that goes crazy during New Year's Eve with lots of firecrackers being heard. And he does not like storms too. Fireworks, one time he bite through the plywood of the screendoor, damaged the screen too, either getting out or getting in we dont know as he is INSIDE the ho...

Re: Chows and Baths

Our chows (and dogs in general) are bathed every week regardless where they stay. Me? Busy. SO Cassie and Blue is bathed once a month, sometimes 6 weeks. How old is Chub Chub? Did you start him on a warm water bath (38 deg Celsius)? You have to introduce him as a puppy. Later when he is about a year...

KY Jelly! hahaha. Anything to keep their job huh! You know, they (chows) would have been fine even without the professional help/. Don't ask them because they'd say "IT IS IMPORTANT that their services be hired." The female will bite if it is not yet the time for her. What I noticed with d...

Re: How to get fur to grow back on mane??

It will grow back if the skin isn't scarred too much. If it developed thick skin and the follicles damaged, then fur will not grow back in those areas. Why would you use a prong collar? dont you know that a chow's fur is one of its most prized possession and a fail-safe strategy to attract attention...

Re: Phillippines

Hello! Thank you for the concern. We are fine, at least I think those members in Bulacan, manila which most members came from, are spared. I am in palawan (also spared, most of it though) and only the northern most tip of my island was ravaged. So we will be sending money to them. The gravity of the...

Re: First Chow Chow

Hope you won't dump the chow after a few months. My advise is love the dog like how you love yourself. Think if he is comfortable in everything. Then, think also like a dog. But you should be the one leading, you do most tasks first and be patient teaching coaxing him even if it takes days and hours...

I am also from the Philippines. Mask usually is seen in the red ones. For the cinnamon, usually , they dont have it. Now is the most crucial time for your chow where his/her future behavior will mostly be based. Based upon how you will raise the pup. If you want a loving dog follow the unconventiona...

Re: I need some help !

Most probably you've bought a 50% Chow. Anyway, I hope it does not present a problem? there is a white spot of fur on his forehead. Where does that come from? Probably from Dodo's dad. Very hard to judge because the photo is so large. However there are two types of chow with their hair/fur differs. ...

Re: New owner - thanks for your advice!

look at his tongue and his nose. if they are wet or moist, good. sometimes we think it is not hot in the room but to a dog it is already hot. also just asking, is this your first dog? panting with the tongue out is just normal for the dogs. they dont sweat much so that's where they regulate their te...

Re: ROYAL CANIN FOOD

Hello Judy this reply is a little late, but Cassie and Blue loved Royal Canin so much they'd finish it immediately, they didnt have any skin problems with that. I just stopped because it is rather expensive in my country. So they are on another brand of dry food plus home food

Re: Stud contract - Questions

The most a male stud owner would ask you is he should have the first pick of the litter if his chow is a champion or the parent is or are champions. I dont understand why he should be allowed to a 2nd pick or 3rd pick. Let him pick which pup he likes before you offer the pups to prospective buyers o...

Stereotyped. Yes. Many hours of grooming? Yes too. But they compensate on being sweet and loyal and does not swap you for your friends treat.

Re: Honest opinions?

Chows vicious? I hope Cassie does. Even for bluff's sake. What I can say is, my concern was like yours before I got my first chow. Her mom bit the male trying to service her (accdg to the breeder). So I thought she could be also. She did challenge my authority when she was younger. But she is so fin...

Re: Putting on weight as they ages?

Haven't weigh her ever since she turned one. Skittish and won't allow me to have the two of us on a weighing scale. I dont force her though she might break an ankle in the process. She is active as she have my mini terrier mix Blue to keep her running after him. But you know chows. They're bums. Wou...

Re: Putting on weight as they ages?

I can't feel her ribs. Her exercise never varies. I just notice her before but what confirmed my suspicion was when she tripped on the concrete stair by lunging on the lizards on the wall. Well I'll reduce her to 2 1/2 cup and let me see if she'll be back on her agile self. Rory's dad: yes she was o...

Putting on weight as they ages?

Hello fellow chows. Been out of here for a long time and I misses the conversations here. Well, I have a question I thought would merit a post here. I noticed Cassie putting on weight. I am thinking if that's just the way they are as they ages? She is now almost two (will be 2 y/o by Dec 15,2013) He...

Keeping chow's weight seemed tricky if they like their kibble. My strategy is simple. I give measured food and that's it. No treats. Just once a week. :-)

You are a responsible pet owner. And I also wouldnt euthanise any pet. Personal choice. The ribbons make her so cute though I feel sad for her. I havent heard of fainting goat. Anyway, keep it up. Just dont forget they are animals and not human. So that you can satisfy their needs much more correctl...

A kiddie pool is a must during summer. Cassie and Blue I have seen to splash in the concrete turtle pond. And the turtle doesn't even use it. :D
