I'm not extremely knowledgeable - except for what I've read regarding pure breeds and what is preferred. Almond eyes are slanted like Asian eyes and are the preferred in Chow-Chow pure breeds. They are referring to the shape of the eyelids. My chow had entropion surgery to eliminate her eyelids from...

Hi Peter: The longer haired chows are called rough coats. The shorter haired chows are called smooth coats. I don't have any pictures, but located a website that maybe you can take pictures from: http://www.lohanchows.com/SPSCC/ If you do a search for smooth coat chows you should be able to find mor...

Thanks Lou & Michelle for the quick response. You've put my mind at ease. Since my experience has always been with voracious cats, a weimeraner and a mutt whose appetites never diminished. Sheena gets up slowly and nonchalantly walks over, smells the food, looks at me and then goes back an...

Appetite Changes in Healthy Chow

:?: Wanted to know if any of you experienced Chow persons notice that when the days get longer your Chows skip a meal or reduce their eating. I haven't done any changes as far as walking, feeding, her being alone for almost 12 hours in the day, etc. and Sheena lost interest in eating her morning mea...

Importance of telling your Chow your itinerary.

Yes, I've also find it's important to let your Chow know your itinerary. However, one time when I gave her a time period of 7 PM and I didn't return until 9 PM, she refused to eat both dinner that evening and breakfast the following day, which threw her off schedule. Come to think of it she gave me ...

Camping w/Chow

Thanks for the info Jeff. I'll definitely take Sheena to Campground by the Lake in the future; checked their web site; sounds/looks like a great place; and thanks for the warning about the heat in Tahoe, I will definitely keep her cooled down w/lots of drinking water and rest stops. Don't know about...

:?: Camping w/Chow - Equipment, etc. - What is Best?

Hi to all those who go camping w/their Chows - backpackers roughing it or campground enthusiasts! What brand name/size of tent works best with your Chow? I'm not roughing it very much - going to Grover Hot Springs in Tahoe last weekend of July with my Sheena - but she sure does like her S p A...

I put in my two cents today on this petition. I am pretty tee'd. I have never found Denver to be a nice place to visit - I was accosted by police officers when I was 21 and they had that 10 PM curfew for anyone under the age of 21. They threw me against the wall, frisked my privates and then asked f...

I don't have experience with 2 Chows together - however - I have a lot of experience with animals and establishment of their "Pecking Order." Be it cats, birds, squirrels, wildlife and any commingling among different species. I one time had 6 cats who got along famously well and then one d...

What a plight you've gone through! Have you ever tried Neuro by Old Mother Hubbard? I get it at Petco. It's 95% meat w/brown rice, no by-products, etc. That's what my Sheena is on - however - it's a canned food - I only mix a little Innova Evo or Ultra Nutro dry foods with it maybe 4 meals per week....

Coughing while barking

Hope your visit to the vet today turned out well. This is a tough question. My experience is with cancer in cats and humans, not particularly Chows but maybe this can be of some help. If your Chow is not losing weight, has a healthy appetite and everything is basically normal I would not worry about...

Sheena used to do the same, pull like a mad dog, but I used a gentle leader - the one that goes around the nose and doesn't choke them around the neck - basically it leads them by their snout - and she finally learned to not pull. Initially she bucked like a horse when it was put on but got used to ...

Past few weeks I noticed my Sheena limping. However, I recently acquired a seat belt harness and just realized that the seat belt strap was tangling around her hind leg as she maneuvered around, trying to look out the window and place herself between the bucket seats. I have a Chevy S-10 pickup w/ex...

I got over my issue with becoming a member of a group and finally joined. Somehow my prior post came out as Guest. So hopefully this works out.

My Sheena looks just like the Avatar.
Here's to Primadonna Chow-Chows - I love 'em all.

In case it comes out Guest again - I'm Juniper!
