Re: Long-snouted chow chows

search for Buddy2 to see pic of my open faced chow that I adopted from a shelter thinking he was a mix but DNA came back 100% chow chow. I love the open face with the almond eyes, they surely have less chance of entropian and breathing problems. Would like to see a pic of your baby.

Re: My Suki Passed, The Love Remains...

I am sorry for your loss, only dog lovers really understand. It sounds like Suki had a good life, couldn't have asked for better. We still tear up occasionally, since losing Suzy several months ago. We brought an 8 year old shelter dog home in December and she is going a long way towards filling the...

UPDATE Re: what's best for Buddy2?

In December we adopted an 8 year old Border Terrier/Chow mix named Martha from a local shelter. She is a silly looking girl with an underbite and more active than I would have expected for her age. It is apparent that she had been hit in her previous home and was an only dog. There were a couple of ...

Re: Buddy2 today, if this works !?! (on an ipad)

Buddy2 just kept losing hair on his head and down to his shoulders so the vet finally recommended a doggie dermatologist, who knew? She took one look and suspected Sebaceous Adenitis, took a couple of biopsies and sure enough, that's what it is. It does make dogs more susceptible to infections so th...

Re: New chow, possibly mix?

She's a very cute and I'm sure very sweet mix. Please don't hold it against her. Mixes are much less likely to suffer with breed related health issues. I have my first purebred dog, a Chow Chow who I thought was a mix when I adopted him from the shelter. DNA proves 100% chow chow. I've never had suc...

Hugs to you all with older dogs. It is so hard watching them struggle with pain and so hard to know when they need to be released. They are lucky to have you. Sending kisses to Shiloh and Loki from Buddy2.

Re: Quick Question

he's a little doll and looks pure chow to me. Mine is of the older "pre-designer" variety, open faced, longer legs & body, only 43 lbs at 4 years old. Personally, I prefer the open faced variety, certainly less liklihood of eye troubles common in chows. Enjoy your baby, be good to him ...

Re: Hi I am new to this site signed up today

HI Steve, I am so sorry to hear what you and Sasha are going through. I agree with you on declining surgery and chemo. I think the best you can do for her is make her as comfortable and happy as possible until you see that she is no longer comfortable or happy. Give her lots of hugs and kisses and I...

Re: Greetings from Germany :)

I have never seen another chow chow in St. Louis, MO.
I'd guess it's because of their bad rep and some insurance companies won't give home insurance with chow in the home. They'd change their minds if they met my sweet Buddy2.

yes, definitely do not shave but the reason I hopped on is to warn about ice water. I used to give my dogs ice water after their walks in summer and the loved it. I have since read that ice water can actually shock the system of a hot dog into a heart attack. I don't know for sure that is true but I...

My chow chow wants nothing to do with the dog bed or any furniture for that matter but loves loves loves to shake and throw his plush squeaky toys.

Re: are chow allergic to fish??

my chow chow tested allergic to dairy and all grains. I would suspect food, environmental or even tick/flea allergy before fish. If he is not already on a grain free diet, I'd highly suggest that and maybe Ultra Oil Skin & Coat supplement. Good luck to the poor itchy guy.

Re: Chow aggression - thoughts?

My 4 year old male Chow Chow Buddy2 spent his first year in a shelter and came to us very timid. I decided not to push him beyond his comfort level, give him time and space, he is coming around beautifully. He loves all dogs and will merely avoid people he does not know. He may not be typical but wh...

Re: Frisco's weird behavior!!!

Does seem weird that he is facing the house while out there. Maybe he is finding it too warm indoors? Buddy2, also a 4 year old male, has a doggie door and goes for weeks spending most of his time outdoors, I have to call him in for meals & then he'll go for weeks where he spends most of his tim...

Re: Scared Baby

My Buddy2 spent his first year in a shelter and was skittish about everything when he came home. We've had him for almost 3 years now and he is just recently not disappearing when people come over. He loved meeting dogs at the park but wanted nothing to do with other people. We chose not to push him...

Re: what's best for Buddy2?

it seems I can't quite give up on another furry face. I had a little spare time at work today and spotted 8 year old Bella on the St Louis seniors4seniors site. She is a King Charles and at 8, may not be too active for Buddy2 but affectionate enough for me. On the downside of course, I may only get ...

Re: what's best for Buddy2?

Buddy2 is only 3 1/2, adopted from a shelter at 13 months. Our regular vet we saw when he first hurt his leg did the drawer test which was obviously very painful for Buddy, I was not prepared for that but anyway he immediately said full tear, he needs tplo. He took x-rays & came back into the ro...

what's best for Buddy2?

We had to say good-bye to our sweet Suzy recently. Age and athritis pain became overwhelming. I believe Buddy2 misses her as much as my husband and I. I have always had two dogs and have been looking for a 2 - 3 year old 25 - 45 lb female to help fill the hole in our home and hearts. BUT, Buddy2 inj...

she looks perfect to me. She is the old style Chow, longer & leaner than the current AKC standard. My 3 yr old male is old style too, I didnt even know he was pure chow when I found him on Petfinders.com. Personally, I prefer the open face long lean look. She's a beauty, enjoy her : )
