Re: Eye surgery questions
Carter looked like that too. His eyes look completely normal now. I could barely see the stitches, except for they were purple. He had them pulled after 7 days because they said after that, the skin starts to grow around them and it's more painful to remove. There was no blood after I took him home....

Re: Entropion Surgery
While we were waiting for Carter's surgery, they said drops wouldn't really do anything. He was prescribed an ointment 3x a day. Drops only help for a few minutes, ointment lasts longer. I would get a second opinion.

Re: Does your chow chase butterflies?
He hasn't seen any yet this year, but I'm sure he will. He has been going after bees. He actually got one in his mouth a few weeks ago. I was afraid he had gotten stung, but he seemed fine. He'll follow them and snap at them.

Re: Chow Myth or Not?
It usually happens when you shave the whole dog, because then the body tries to over produce the undercoat for insulation instead of the guard coat. I wouldn't worry too much. My Chow/Husky/Shepherd mix (the other 2 breeds are really bad to shave) had several hot spots that needed to be shaved close...

Re: Won't sit in house
Try a really special treat that she never really gets. I have a similar problem with Carter. We were told to use extra special treats in tough situations. The only way I can get Carter to pay attention in class is with little bits of chicken tender. As long as he knows I have it, he will do just abo...

Re: rescue issues -- can't see (?)
I might suggest sitting in the fence, maybe on a chair or ground. Let her come to you. Once she comes to you on her own, it will be much easier to work with her. Go very slow, so as not to frighten her. Make sure to talk in a soothing voice so she knows you are there. Don't just reach out to touch h...

Re: Neutering Question: What to expect
Carter was groggy for the first day. We had to tell at him to not lick for most of the healing time. We couldn't keep an e-collar on him and he destroyed the blow up e-collar we bought. He didn't seem sore unless I touched in the wrong area (while checking his incision). You just want to try to keep...

LOL, very cute! I love the tunneling at the end! Carter loves the snow. We keep having ours melt and come back again. You can tell he loves it when it comes back, although we don't.
Re: SHAVING??
As a groomer, I don't recommend it. I have seen many double coated breeds have their coats never grow back right, whether it be from one time shaving, or many. It may not happen the first time, but the more often a Chow is shaved, the more you risk ruining the coat. If you are concerned with keeping...

Re: Itchy Chow Chow
Swimming will not help her itchiness, it will actually most likely make it worse. The longer it takes her to dry, the more likely she will have irritation. Some areas will stay damp longer than others and may cause rashes or sores. This is especially a problem with your long, double coated dogs that...

Re: Itchy Chow Chow
As a groomer, if her coat looked good the first few days, with no greasy/dirty/flaky look or feel, then they rinsed her just fine. If there was shampoo residue, you would notice it the same day, as well as any irritation, not2-3 weeks later. If the major itching didn't show up for awhile, I would be...

Nature's Miracle has a huge line of pet stain and odor cleaning products. I have used it for both dog and cat messes. It is usually in a white bottle with a red cap. http://www.petsmart.com/search/index.jsp?kwCatId=&kw=natures%20miracle&origkw=nature%27s%20miracle&sr=1 Also, maybe try pu...

Re: Advice Needed!!!
Photos/Video and call as soon as you hear something so that he can get caught in the act. It's awful that they couldn't do anything. I'm sure they would be able to see from the condition of the puppies that they were beat. An injury on one or two of the puppies could be explained away, but not all 3...

Re: Neuter or not to neuter?
Carter is about 3 or 4 years old and he marked like crazy. As I've said before, his marking problems have been drastically reduced. It may not completely eliminate the marking, but it will at least lower is urge to do it. Carter is much more tolerable since he's been neutered. Even if it lowers the ...

Re: bordatella innoculation?
If you take your dog in public around other dogs or to be groomed, I highly recommend it. It's always better to be safe then sorry! It's so easily transferable, that if you don't have your dog protected, then you are at high risk. It's almost as bad as fleas. One dog gets it, all dogs in contact wit...
