Re: Does your Chow grunt and snort?
Yep, we have 2 grunters and snorters here. Snort when being stimulated, as before barking at something, and grunt when ...well...disgruntled! Sometimes used as a statement of the atmosphere of the home, good or bad...lol.

Re: My Little Lilly
Of course it won't be perfect. Mike needs to ignore her when she does this. Maybe have a few pieces of duck jerky in his pocket when he enters the room and if she does not react, treat! If she reacts, sit and not look at her. When she stops, treat! You are dealing with behaviors from her old life. P...

Re: Shiloh's new behavior
I'm sure she stops shortly after he leaves. He needs to park around the corner and walk to where he can hear her, but she can't see him. She is smart enough to know to stop when it won't serve her.. Haley's old girl Montana barks a storm when I first ome home, she is in my room in total comfort, but...

Hmmm...I'll try that with D'Lion. He might like to chew on it. Of course, he is just as likely to stash it in his hidey hole.

Re: Ming the Chow Chow :)
Just love her like you are, and continue to show mutual respect and you will continue to do a great job with her. She is a beautiful lady. Her original mum did a wonderful job of socializing her. Most Chows have fits of energy, we call them zoomies, as coined by Judy Fox, if memory serves. They lite...

What a wonderful story! It happens often, that a Chow chooses it's people, regardless of who might claim to 'own' them. I suspect Joggie will always be top dog in your life, no matter how many will come after him. Welcome to the forum.

Re: Just trying to learn more
You have a Chowder (Chow/Labrador mix). Congratulations! The best dog I ever owned was a Chowder named Pippy. She looked just like your baby as a baby. She lived a good long life and was a wonderful girl to the end. She grew up looking like a rough coat retriever, only with shorter legs and a paisle...

Re: My Little Lilly
My Lily had been 33 pounds most of her adult life. She recently went up to a whopping 40 pounds, but we had to switch her food and she was on a short course of steroids, so she may be back down already. I always say she is my Cocker Spaniel sized Chow! Sounds like she is adjusting. It takes some Cho...

There's a couple new posters who piggybacked this post with their own issues. The one with the poisoned mother- yes, you can take them that early if circumstances such as the death of the mother are in play. Please, please do research and if you are not an experienced owner, make your decision caref...

Re: Zeena attacks her brother Max once again
Lily will on rare occasion light into Dillon for no good reason. I can separate them with verbal correction. I find it is usually due to outside factors. Lily will get aggitated by something else and take it out on him. He takes it like the servant to the Queen that he is, just turning away from her...

Well, Merry Christmas. I knew once you started looking it would only be a short time before you found the one. I also cannot imagine giving up my furbabies. It would be something only when there was no other option at all. I am sure Miss Lilly will soon adjust. Congrats on this beautiful girl.

Re: Everyone thinks they know better....
Don't get offended. Just look at the person making the snarky comments and say, "My pets don't suffer fools, so it's best for everyone involved to keep them separated from our present company..." Then just give a sympathetic little smile to 'the fool'.

I was feeding her Natural Balance Duck and Sweet Potato Limited Ingredient Diet (LID). I supplemented her with Happy Hips Duck Jerky. The only ingredients in the jerky are duck, chondroitin and glucosamine. She did very well on it, but the vet wants to make sure she is not reacting to the duck, and ...

Re: please help me with this flea problem..
The problem with fleas is they lay eggs off of the animal. While you are treating the ones on your pet, new ones are hatching in your carpet or furniture, just waiting to find a host. A product like frontline will help because it is a continuous treatment, but you might have to treat the house with ...

Re: Max has found his voice!
I laughed at how they kind of meandered. I open the back door and say okay and mine usually bolt. Sometimes Lil plays Dillon for a fool and acts like she is going out, but once he runs out she 'changes her mind' and walks back to the livingroom. The whine/bark combo and bowing was darling.
