Re: Finally got my puppy
First off she is adorable! Congrats. My two are 3 1/2 months apart in age. When I brought Chloe in as the second pup they played and rough housed all the time. She adored Shug and they were obsessed with each other. I was concerned about bringing in a second puppy and worried about her bonding with ...

Re: Male or female as second dog (puppy)?
[quote=So, could there be a problem having 2 male chow chows? I have 1 male chow chow and 1 male american staffordshire terrier and they accept each other.[/quote] Yes there can be problems with same gender full blood chows. Males or females. Even though there are success stories there are plenty of...

Re: I need help walking my new puppy
My Chloe was stubborn about the leash so I took her to Petsmart and her curiosity /the smells got the better of her and she forgot about the leash and starting walking around. From that point on she was fine.

Re: Male or female as second dog (puppy)?
I always say get the opposite *Censored Word* when it comes to Chows. I would also neuter/spay both. You don't plan to breed them so for obvious future health reasons and to prevent accidental pregnancies (both inhouse and the random neighborhood accidents), I can't imagine why you would need to kee...

Re: Very dry hair on his bottom! Help!
Both of mine have drier, more wiry hair on their back ends/tails. I'm not sure anything can/should be done about it. Seems normal to me. Also a 10 month old may still have his puppy coat.

That all depends on whether or not he receives the proper vet care and treatment. Hopefully the puppy is receiving that care.

Reputable breeders
My groomer has a friend looking for a chow puppy. She asked me where I got Shug and Chloe but I will not recommend the breeder Chloe came from and the horrible place Shug came from has thankfully been shut down. This got me thinking and googling and looking around on here for ideas w/out much luck. ...

Re: Adopting a dog with hip dysplasia
I don't have much but sedating him prior, and /or placing a muzzle prior to arrival should help. I'm not sure if you have the time but when my two were little we would stop by the vet just to visit and get a treat. I wanted to them to think of it as a good place. He is probably beyond that help but ...

Re: Adopting a dog with hip dysplasia
Awwww I'm so glad you are willing to give this guy a home. I'm certainly no expert on hip dysplasia but when Chloe was diagnosed out of the blue I freaked out and did a lot of research. I love my vet but found an ortho specialist because just like our MD's, regular vets don't know everything and I w...

Re: Adopting a dog with hip dysplasia
I have an almost 9 year old with severe bilateral hip dysplasia. She was diagnosed at age 5. We have not had any surgery at this point except when she tore her ACL. There are basically two options for surgery at her age. She can have total hip replacement surgery or FHO (removing the head and neck o...

Re: Hoping to get tips
My Chloe didn't like the leash either. I remember taking her to Petsmart and carrying her in. Once I put her down curiosity took over and she started walking around, with the leash. So maybe try taking her somewhere very interesting and see if curiosity wins over stubbornness. Whatever you choose to...

Re: Has anyone ever purchased a Chow from RHR Chow Chow?
I don't know anything from personal experience but when I look at their website and see so many chows lined up in those enclosures I would run the other way. It looks like a chow factory farm. Just my personal opinion. What kind of life do those chows have? Ugh!

Re: 7 month old chow growling at daughter.
How old is your daughter? I had a chow one time who appeared scared of toddlers/children at his eye level. I'm sure you know this but please NEVER leave them alone for even a second! You will need to work on general socialization with your pup. Walks, going to parks, Petsmart, anywhere that you can ...

You are doing the right thing because you love him and you are doing the best that you can for him. That is all any of us can do for the furry faces we love. Thanks for the update and I hope he starts feeling better!
