From a book titled "THE CHOW CHOW by Diana Phillips The Origins "In a remote mysterious period of evolution appeared the animal we now call the Chow chow. Without any doubt it is one of our most ancient breeds of dog. Historians have found chronicles dating as far back as the 11th century ...

Never really did much "training" with any of my chows. Nala was a great dog and was highly intelligent. She seemed to instinctivly know right from wrong and never gave us any trouble. She also knew the basic commands like come, sit, stay, etc. OJ the evil genius, is more of free spirit he ...

Reminds me of a story when my son was 3 yrs old and Nala was just a pup. My son had a curious george that he carried everywhere he went. Nala had a stuffed plush shark chew toy from the pet store. So my son was teasing her by taking her toy and running with it. She would chase after him and try to g...

Chris We've had OJ since October '98. They only get along in pairs, male/female. Well the last time we tried them together anyway. I'm sure the boys will still fight and really don't want either getting injured. Got plenty of room here so it's not that big of a deal. 12 room house plus a full baseme...

How about 4 at the same time? Well they just turned 5yrs old on May 12. Let's see, 2 males and 2 females from the same litter. All got along great until that magic 6 month mark. Then all hell broke loose! The males fought fiercely! You would think the 2 females would get along but no! They fight too...

I forget the Actors/Actress name but if you find out you could ask them about the whisperer they are suing him for abuse. I think all that stuff is as dumb as my wife paying a dog psychic $250 to tell us an hour later that Pekoe loves us, And that's all we got. 30 minutes of silence so she could ta...

Speaking of leaving for work...do your chows turn away and give you the cold shoulder when you say goodbye? OJ stays by my side as I'm getting ready, having breakfast, etc. He even waits outside the bathroom door! Just before I leave we take a walk together around the yard and then we come back in, ...

Taking Treats From Strangers?

I was reading a thread on a tractor forum I belong to about dogs and deliverymen/women. The guy was saying how his 3 dogs go crazy barking at the UPS guy and that when he came out this time, he found two of his dogs had treats and the third was giving her paw to the driver in order to get her treat....

I wouldn't worry about it. All my chows files have "MUZZLE" stamped all over them! Who cares? Better for all of us. Who needs some lame brain that can't do their job correctly suing you because your chow is smarter than they are and puts an end to their abuse? My guess would be that "...

Might depend on what other colors are in their lines. My red female and my black male had 4 pups. Two black males, a black female and another female even redder than her mom. I'm no expert but I think if my red female pup was to have pups with any other color but black she still may have a black pup...

Xena & Zim Meet an Oppossum

We heard Xena barking and barking last night out in the back yard. When we called only Zimmy would come. OJ gets upset when he sees I'm ready to leave also. He spends most of the time close to me. Not under foot, but never more than a few feet away. Our chows were easy to train. They trained themselves! In our bedroom, we had a large cardboard box for them to sleep in, with the side cut way down so the mom and 4 pups could get in and out easily.
