Re: A Chow and NOT a Golden Retriever
Same chow poster at my petsmart but you beat me to posting about it. I was so excited when I walked in and saw it the first time. Then some lady walked in and looked at McKenzie and said hey look, a real chow chow! It was good for a few laughs.

Re: Beautiful young red female needs a home
I just wanted to commend you on the great job you're doing with KoKo. It sounds like she's starting to warm up to you well. It always does take a little time. Are you still trying to find her another home or do you think things might work out well now? I don't know if she's any better with your boyf...
Re: Fleas
So Frontline doesn't help against mosquitos? I guess I should rethink which I buy in a few days for McKenzie. The vet applied Frontline to her on the 9th so I was going to stick with that but we're in Florida and have a man made lake behind our house so mosquitos are a nightmare. Thanks for the info...

Re: Advice needed to foster/adopt
Well assuming the chow/husky mix is labeled correctly, she probably would get along with another female. Please keep me (and all of us) updated. I'll be closely monitoring Kodiak's story. She's one of those dogs that just calls out to me for some reason, although things probably would be easier for ...

Re: New Puppy Owner - Lots of Questions!
1. Allergies - I have SEVERE allergies (so bad that I lose my sense of smell at an early age). The only time they act up is when I brush McKenzie. My alternative, make my fiance do it. So he's the normal brusher and walker before bed. I feed and walk in the morning and afternoon. I also have to wash...

Re: Advice needed to foster/adopt
Bring the girls along, maybe they could be like the 3 musketeers or something, lol. You never know. McKenzie gets along with all males. I haven't yet figured out which females she decides to get along with. The ones in her training class, she plays with, sniffs, or ignores. But there are others that...

Re: Metcam
McKenzie took tramadol for a few days after her surgery and did really well but it made her really sleepy. She slept for most of the 3 days she was on it. It also caused her to have very bad constipation. I have no idea about Metacam. McKenzie also took 5 days worth of Rimadyl after the surgery and ...

Those are two stunning chowdren!
Barb, I've seen those water bottles at the pet store. They sell some that hook up directly to your outdoor spicket. I'm not sure I've seen one for inside though.

Re: Going potty with e-collar
I stopped the tramadol and gave her canned food last night. We took her out just before bed and after half an hour of walking, she finally went so I'm going to keep her on the canned for a couple days until things balance out.
Thanks for the tip.

Re: Going potty with e-collar
Do they really? Even before surgery, Kenzie had to be walked for a good 20-30 minutes before she'd potty (either #1 or #2). I just tried to research Rimadyl. Are the rumors about it causing liver failure and death true? The vet didn't say anything like that, he just described it like a baby aspirin ...

Re: Going potty with e-collar
The vet said that rimadyl is an anti-inflammatory equivalent to a human baby aspirin. She was on the rimadyl from day one and whined for 14 hours straight because she was in pain. So I called the vet and he said that she needed something stronger and gave her the tramadol. He said it was safe for he...

Going potty with e-collar
McKenzie is having a hard time learning how to sniff with her e-collar on. She hasn't gone #2 since Thursday evening and is only peeing once a day. I took the e-collar off on Saturday to allow her to sniff but that didn't go well and she popped a suture. Any ideas? She's on fish oil capsules for her...

Re: McKenzie's entropion surgery
McKenzie did really well yesterday. We've created a "system" to put her ointment on. I let her sniff everything first, then she comes to me and sits right in front of me, I wrap my legs around her like a hug and she stays mostly still to allow me to do it. Even her suture break looks much ...

Re: McKenzie's entropion surgery
Well she was doing great all day. But she hasn't gone potty since Thursday night. So I decided to take the e-collar off to let her sniff around and hopefully go. BAD idea. She was walking around sniffing and all of a sudden, smack. She threw her paw up and it barely hit her face from what I could se...

Re: McKenzie's entropion surgery
The vet cleaned the dried blood with saline and put some extra ointment in her eye in addition to the suture line. Luckily, she didn't break any of the sutures, she just broke open the blood clot that was there. He gave her some tramadol for pain. It's been making her a little drowsy but at least sh...

Re: McKenzie's entropion surgery
Well Kenzie had a little set back this morning and now has to go back to the vet when my fiance gets home. Around 5am, she was still half asleep and her right eye must have itched or something, I woke up to her whining but by the time I realized why, she had already hit part of her eye, I clapped re...

Re: McKenzie's entropion surgery
She did fine during surgery and I've been okay so far but she's been whining a lot. The vet said not to give her any pain pills or anything until tomorrow because she's still sedated-like and he gave her a morphine inject. She's just laying around whining. She only ate because I gave her canned food...
