Re: are they call chow chow ?
I so wish i could see all the other photos....I have head so many people try to say that cream chows had some other breed mixed in to make them cream Samoyed or something and yet here is a cream if I am not mistaken. Please could you try to make the big photos smaller and put them on again. I would ...

Re: How much walking is too much walking?
This is a direct quote from the UK Chow chow breeds council website.... EXERCISE Chows are compact, heavily-built dogs and should not be encouraged to jump up or race up and down stairs, as this can lead to injury to their legs. They can run fast over short distances. They love to play in the snow, ...

Re: TTA vs TPLO surgery?
I believe steps and stairs are not great for chows and posted on this subject recently. I am so sorry you have had to go through all this. Believe me I know the pain and heartache. I hope you can get the op done soon and get it all behind you. My one suggestion is make sure you get proper pain relie...

Re: TTA vs TPLO surgery?
I have experience of TTA, TPLO and concervative management mentioned in the above post. As far as the surgery option goes I would 100% agree....it depends on the experience and reputation of the surgeon. My Bramble had two different types of TPLO. Both were equally as successful and someone close to...

Re: Question on my Chow's hair...
I beg to differ on that one. My chows all have thicker necks than heads and only have to fling their head in the air whilst behind me to remove their collars how ever tight they are. Collars are a no no in our house except when showing. Other than that they go everywhere on harnesses. Whilst two of ...

Re: Carrying Chowling.
To pick your chow up you should support their whole body weight and not leave parts hanging. One arm scoops behind the back legs and the other under the chest behind the front legs with the legs over the top of your arm. Front end higher than back end. Picking them under the arms forces their front ...

Re: Would it be fair if we got a Chow pup?
Whilst in every other respect I think you sound like ideal chow owners I worry about the whole third floor issue for the following reason which I will explain. I am expecting some people not to agree with me. If you have a lift then this does not apply but as you didn't mention one I am assuming you...

Re: Grain Free Kibble?
I always suggest fish for itching. It seems an easier protein for them to manage than many of the others. I have just switched to Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream which is grain free and am finding it very good. Go with what you like the sound of that you can readily buy in you area.

Re: Pseudopregnancy..
Dogs are different to almost every other animal in that after every come on heat (or in Season) they always have a false pregnancy. It just varies in degree. Most females will not be that noticeable. They gather a few soft toys, get a little grumpy at the point they would have produced puppies (64 d...

Re: 10 week old pup is very aggressive
Could I just say in defense of your puppy this is normal puppy behaviour it is not aggression. Most puppies grow out of this behaviour as they get their permanant teeth at around five months and many before that and whilst it is not behaviour to encourage or even put up with if you dont have to it i...

I am glad your vet gave you proper worming meds as many of the over the counter types are less than useless. You sound like you are doing all the right things. Enjoy your baby and keep posting pics

Re: Too fat?
Your puppy should not leave home normally till eight weeks so as to get the best socialisation and learning from her litter and mum. Having left home early Coda has missed out on routine worming and depending on her breeder may not have been wormed at all. A small puppies body can soon become overwh...

Re: Potty training advice
My take on it is ignore it, take her out quickly and praise her if she does something, clean it up and try to do better next time lol :) Most puppy accidents are down to the owner not being alert enough. A puppy needs to go out when it wakes, when it's eaten, every half hour when it's playing and an...

Re: Pete is a little meanie! Help please!
This depends on body language mostly. Either way he sees the beagle as a threat. Either he is scared and cowered by you tail down making himself small and the beagle didn't pay attention and pushed him out of his comfort zone he had to defend himself or he was protecting what he sees as his territor...

Chows and cats
I wondered how many of you have chows and cats living together and how they get on. Ours are fine with our own cats and have got about 50% used to the cats they see in our street every day (when seen in the street) but let any of those strange cats come in our garden and the noise at the window is D...

I am so sorry to read this and I hope your chows are healing well. I am not sure what to say here as mine have niggles (Two entire girls and ones speyed) but have never full on fought. I have taken precautions from the first day. They are never left together when I am out. It only takes someone to r...

Re: Everyone meet Pete!
When a puppy arrives at its new home more often than not it will get an upset tummy from the stress so you should keep your baby on the same food the breeder has it on for at least a fortnight. (most breeders will give you a bag of food away with you.) Use that time to research the best food you can...

What a difference. Thank you for taking this poor baby and helping her to have the life should have had. Sally has such a pretty face. I cant wait to see her with a full set of fur. Please post another pic when she gets her winter coat. (not that we want to think about Winter yet!)
