When asked if he envisioned a future without pets: "If I had my personal view, perhaps that might take hold. In fact, I don't want to see another dog or cat born. RIGHT ON. I support the MSPCA, The Wolf Fund (our wild furkids!!), and the ASPCA every so often.... I don't support the shelters, thats like supporting death and buying euthanizing drugs. To a point you are right, but they do save many animals, They are there for the animals who are involved in anim...

Tumor?

Okay... so Angel has had so many skin/mouth issues lately (as mentioned in a previous post). Yesterday I found a large lump on the roof of her mouth. She went to the vet today. It is likely a tumor. The vet said we are lucky because we caught it early and is removing it Thursday morning. A biopsy wi...

She doesn't seem very itchy... She is chewing her paws often, though. Her ear really looks so much better. I guess it's running its course.

Thanks again everyone!

This is a new crate, no other animal has used it before. After the first time, I sprayed it down with a hose but didn't use any chemicals... I just figured he wouldn't want to poop where he sleeps (as they say). What should we use to clean it? It is a big plastic crate. It's so sweet of you to take ...

What does BYB stand for??

Also, instead of disclaiming your original post, maybe you could have just mentioned that you got a new baby. Then no one would have jumped down your throat. :)

Either way, congrats on the new chowling and good luck!

The rescue that we got him from highly recommends crate training so that they can feel safe and have their own little "den". We haven't tried leaving him alone without the crate yet for two reasons: 1) He sometimes shows his teeth to Angel (around food mostly) which is understandable, but we don't w...

Well, we just got two days full of rain and Angel's allergies seem to have settled a bit.... her legs are not sore anymore and her ears look to have settled.... I didn't call the vet yet. When it flares up again I will inquire about the shots/food changes.

Thanks everyone!!

Dogs in General: Crates

Well... Ripley has been a wonderful addition to our family! He is so much fun... One problem we are having, though, is that he keeps pooping in his crate! Greyhounds must be crate trained as if they were puppies because they are not house broken. We are sure to take him out immediately before going ...

My babygirl does exactly the same thing as Pekoe! She's doesn't know what it means to "sit" unless steak or chicken is involved.... That crazy girl! Then, if I say "SIT!" I have to say it about 39935 times and beg her to do it before I can give her the treat. She's such a brat.

Re: Sick puppy

Are chows vulnerable to allergies? Both of ours have them. With the first one we tried predisone but I didn't want to deal with the long term side effects -- she had the ear infection and itchy skin. We also did the ear drops and antibiotics. When we switched to a fish and potato diet, it helped tr...

I have heard that, too Nita. Dogs will sometimes eat their own poop because they are lacking protein in their diet. Maybe some extra burger?

Angel talks a lot, too. She will poke me with her squishy nose and balk like a chicken running back and forth from the door when she wants to go out... If she wants to play she gives a little "woof!" and when she hears something that startles her she gives a big "ARF!" They are so funny....

Angel does that pause thing, too! She loves to like people's toes! She's so funny. It's sort of gross and we often ask her to stop after a minute because it is SO sticky! But I always laugh when she does that pause, mid lick. YUCK!! :)

We are potty training Ripley, now, too... Even though he is three he's never been house broken due living in a crate his whole life as a racing dog. It is recommended we use a crate to do this... So far it has been very helpful (just two little accidents, one pee, one poo which was right in front of...
