Honestly.... It wasn't just because he was a pit bull. I was angry because ANY dog has the potential to bite if provoked. Some of the children in our yard are two, three, four, and five years old, each with various dog knowledge. If someone ever got bit (by a pit bull, a poodle, a lab or even a squi...

Pitbulls at Preschool

As many of you know, I work at a local preschool. Yesterday my heart stopped while we were at recess. I looked up at a small group of our students (who are three) and noticed they were standing next to the fence looking at a woman. I cautiously walked over and one yelled out "Miss Robyn, I fed the d...

Just a little input: Angel is allergic to corn (whole or ground) so the man at my local petstore recommended Wellness. He said even though other foods are great, Wellness works for her because it doesn't have corn. I get the fish one becuase it has extra Omega 3, that way I don't have to give her an...

I read it in "Animals in Translatin" by Temple Grandin. She does all sorts of research on animals.... Great book. I recommend it.

We try to not give Angel too much people food because she has allergies to corn and who knows what else, but our Golden used to love bananas!! As soon as he heard one banana being ripped from the rest he was at your ankles... just sitting and waiting!

I have read that YELLOW is a warning color for most animals... Cows for example will not enter a barn that has a yellow flag sticking to the outside.

Maybe it is the color?

Angel hates being dried, too... with any towel. I thought it was just her! Guess not.

Angel is a total lady.... She will hop over any puddle in her way and never lifts her leg to pee. She often does that bury the poop dance when she is done (I always imagine her singing "I feel good!! do do dod do! I knew that I would would now!" hehe) . She seems to LOVE getting groomed, too. Whenev...

Strangely, Angel has done that before. She is ten and is not on any medications. We were driving back from Christmas (about a three hour drive) and suddenly she kept trying to climb into the front seat. I have a two door car so there really isn't room for that. My boyfriend was sitting in the passen...

I'm trying to get SOMETHING for the car. I have a convertible and want her to be able to enjoy the wind for short rides, too, but am worried that without a seatbelt she'll fall/jump out. I won't even risk that. I might try it out. They are a small locally owned business so have a no questions asked ...

Planet Dog Harness

I was at the local pet store today (The Barking Cat) and found a Planet Dog walking harness that doubles as a seat belt. Has anyone heard of this? I tried using a regular doggie seat belt for Angel, but she didn't budge. She looked so uncomfortable.... it was so bulky. This one is just like a regula...

That's interesting, Bama, because the dog we have a problem with is a pekinese, too. The lady just opens her door and he runs outside.... She has no yard and hardly even a sidewalk. Everytime she said "Oh! We're in such a hurry! I just wanted to let him run for a minute!" Then he follows Angel and n...

I never understood why people with little dogs don't just train them to behave in public....? Do you think it's really because they think they are harmless? It drives me nuts... Just because your dog is LITTLE shouldn't mean that he or she shouldn't have to be a leash! Or that they should run over t...

Vet/Groomer in my area

Someone mentioned in a previous post that we should put down good names for vets/groomers in our areas: I think that's a great idea. I am lucky enough to have found a great vet and groomer in my town and would be happy for anyone else to find them, too. My Vet: Beverly All Natural Health Center, Bev...

Angel is a good jumper, too. She always hops over puddles outside... She doesn't seem to like getting her paws wet. She also hops from the linoleum over the hardwood floor to the rug and then on to the couch with no problem. Maybe he's getting a little lazy because he knows you'll pick him up!!? Cut...

I usually start treating Angel in April/May. We live in New England so one never knows when spring is actually here.... We get random snow until mid May some years. I agree, dogdad, I don't like putting chemicals on her either, but I feel it is a better option that having her infested with fleas. My...

I haven't contributed anything to your book yet, Judy, but Angel's story is pretty special. When I was younger (about 15 yrs ago) we had a different cream colored Chow who my parents named Bear. Bear had a brain tumor and died when he was about 3 years old. My parents went back to the place where th...
