That is so sad. What angers me is that when a poor dog like that does end up biting or attacking someone they blame it on the dog when it's the owners fault. They usually end up putting the dog down, personally I think they should do everyone a favor and put the owner down.

TiVo's panting has surprised me a time or two as well. It seems like he will sometimes pant for what seems like an extensive period of time and it seems loud for a puppy. I've been trying to make sure he doesn't over exert himself when the weather is warm (not easy to do when a puppy gets a case of ...

I don't want to rub in the fact that I'm on vacation today for a 3-day weekend but it's after 1:30 p.m. here in NW Indiana and I'm still hanging out in my pj's. Ahhhh, time for another glass of iced tea.

Our vet heard a murmur when we took TiVo to the vet last week but he said that it's not unusual in puppies and they usually grow out it. I believe I remember our mal having the same thing when we took him in as a puppy and it disappeared and he never had any heart problems or anything as he grew up ...

I'd like to know where to get that toy as well. I think TiVo would really enjoy it. He's the first puppy we've had in years that actually enjoys playing with toys. We just got him a ball that lights up and makes different sounds on impact and he's really been enjoying that, but he also likes soft to...

TiVo is my first chow and he's cream but I wouldn't describe him as silly. He's a puppy so he does some pretty cute and funny things but I think of all the puppies we've had over the years he's one of the most alert and aware puppies we've had. His hearing is extremely acute and he is already barkin...

I had to laugh when I got to "does not generally initiate trouble" because TiVo loves to start things with his big brother. Gulliver is so patient with him but sometimes TiVo will just not let up and Gully has to set him straight. We ran in to a situation on the 4th of July because I had given Gulli...

What a great idea to make the thunder fun, I am definitely going to try that with TiVo. So far he's barked a bit at the firecrackers and things going off and even napped through part of it last night but my older shepherd mix Gulliver can get really frantic and I was afraid he'd teach that fear to T...

I didn't even think to ask about his dew claws, thanks. I know we had them removed when we had our mal neutered but his were weird and kept getting caught on things and the vet was afraid they'd get ripped off if he didn't remove them. I don't really notice TiVo's, Yukon's almost dangled. Now I'm go...

I have a good friend that has 3 dalmations and they love to play in the pool. I bought one when our mal was a puppy years ago thinking he would really enjoy in the hot weather but he much preferred staying inside laying on an airconditioning vent. I was thinking of getting one for TiVo so would love...

I don't really know why it bothered me so much other than up until then he had always listened when we told him not to go in the landscaping and really never attempted to. OK, it was cute and while he was napping peacefully afterwards in his crate I had to admit to myself that the reason it frustrat...

Satan's Spawn (aka TiVo)

Satan's spawn has returned!! Formerly knows as my puppy TiVo occasionally he turns in to an unbelievably difficult and challenging alter ego. It hasn't happened for a couple of weeks, but HE'S BACK. We were enjoying playing with his new tennis ball donut toy, I was tossing it about the house he was ...

TiVo's 1st Fourth of July

We live in NW Indiana where fireworks are legal (as opposed to our neighbor Illinois who, smartly, prohibits them. I work at a hospital so I guess I should just enjoy the extra business all the injuries provide) so holidays like the 4th can get pretty challenging for pet owners with all the loud noi...

Neutering changes??

We've got TiVo scheduled to be neutered next week. He seems to be a healthy little guy so I'm not anticipating any problems with the procedure but I'm wondering if it will cause any behavioral changes?

We just lost our mal in February to cancer at the age of 9. When I asked what had caused it, our vet, the vet we were referred to at a Vet school and their oncologist said that it was a cancer that onsets in older dogs and is seen very rarely in younger dogs. So, I guess it's similar to humans event...

Rogansmommy - The vet was the one that pointed it out to us, I hadn't even noticed it until then. He asked if he had been chewing on anything hard (like rocks) and that's when it dawned on me that the bone I had gotten him was not a puppy bone. I told him about it and he said it was really important...

Oops, bad chow mommy!

OK, I did something incredibly stupid. TiVo LOVES toys and he LOVES to chew. So, every week to go on an outing to PetSmart where he picks out a toy (under parental guidance, i.e. well made,no tiny parts, etc.)and one week we bought him a puppy bone, like one of those nylabone things only for puppies...

Right now for Tivo it's cats which is unfortunate because he shares the house with five "sister" felines. Fortunately our house is a two story and he hasn't figured out how to go up stairs yet so they sit at the top and stare at him but should one dare to set a paw on the first floor the chase is on...
