Victory - I'm relatively new to this forum. Is there more information on the Univ of Minn study? Is this something that is more predominant in chows? Sorry, don't mean to ask something that's been discussed prior. Again, don't mean to ask something repetitive or stupid but is this what Darkwind is g...

Only having had a chow for a few weeks now and having had dogs my whole life I am constantly amazed at the things TiVo is aware of. He is much more aware of sounds, movement, etc. Also, he developed a "serious" bark much younger than I remember my other dogs developing it. And, not just barking to b...

Watches airplanes overhead
I have never had a dog that notices the sounds of airplanes and helicopters and stops to watch them go overhead but TiVo does. It amazes me. He seems to be so much more aware of sights and sounds than Gulliver (our shepherd-mix) or our other dogs. Is this a common trait in chows or do we have "super...

Vacation's Over
I've been on vacation at home the past 5 days just enjoying time around the house with TiVo, Gulliver and our 5 felines. It's been great. TiVo is really a smart little guy and he has really settled in. He still has the zoomies but amuses himself with his toys and actually naps occasionally. With our...

Certificate of Pedigree
We received TiVo's Certificate of Pedigree today but I don't understand exactly what it tells me. It lists the name of a male chow at the top and the breeder then underneath it starts with a sire and dam and then branches out to the right all that were bred from those two? It doesn't seem to list hi...

He's baaaack! I just got him home. Yes, he was singing soprano! I couldn't believe it when I got there and heard him. He never does that at at home. They gave him a bath and he's all soft, fluffy and adorable. They said he behaved very well and has a great attitude. The vet tech did say that he grow...

Missing TiVo
We took TiVo to the vet for his neutering yesterday morning and don't get to pick him up until 3:00 this afternoon. Boy is the house quiet. When the vet called to check in with us yesterday afternoon he said he came out of the anesthesia wide awake and was "singing" to them and they were all getting...

These puppy pictures are wonderful. Chow puppies are the cutest puppies there are! I have always admired Steel's photo but as a puppy, so cute!! Getting TiVo at 4 months we missed out on some of this but I will have to say that everyone I show his puppy pictures to all comment on how incredible look...

I would definitely call animal control. When I came home from work one day last week the animal control officer was at a house two doors down taking their dog Tipper out of their back yard because no one was home and it was left in the back yard with no water or anything. That's a $152 fine here alo...

We got TiVo at 4 months, he's a cream boy as well. He loves to chew so we keep him stocked with the puppy version of the flavored nylabones which he loves, but he also likes soft toys to chew on as well. We do crate both of our dogs and since we also have an open floor plan they're crates are in opp...

I had a similar problem but with my mal. From the time we got him as a puppy everything would just squirt right out though he never acted at all sick. We tried all the recommended dog foods, careful not to change anything too rapidly to further upset the issue and we essentially ran out of food to t...

I'm a new chow owner so I don't have tons of experience with chows though we've had at least two to three dogs ever since we've been married (27 years). I'm just wondering if its seasonal could it be an allergy? I live in Northwest Indiana and am amazed at how many of my friends have dogs that suffe...

We feed our "boys" first thing in the morning (usually around 5:30 a.m.) and then again in the evening around 5:30 p.m. They are fed in their crates. We started doing that several years ago, Gulliver eats slowly (and still does) he's not a big foodie but then we got our mal, Yukon, who lived to eat ...

We don't have that problem with TiVo because he and his brother are fed in their crates. That way TiVo doesn't wolf down his food and then try to eat Gulliver's. The day after we brought him home we fed them in their crates but didn't shut the doors, well, TiVo ate his then went in to Gulliver's cra...

I can understand some of what you're going through. We have had TiVo for about a month now and got him as a 4 month old chow and it had been about 10 years since we've had a puppy. I was told he had a "cold" when I got him. Of course it was kennel cough and he had a bit of a hacking cough for a week...
