Treats, Which do you use? Healthy

What treats do you all use? My last Chow enjoyed Nutros Lamb and Rice cookies but Maggie turns her nose up at them. For a real treat she get some cut up steak or a few pieces of chicken but what biscuit types do you use? I don't mean filled with chemicals, I want to keep her teeth clean so something...

Re: New Chow Owner - Toe Nail Question...

Walking my chow everyday keeps her nails very short without ever needing them trimmed. I'm not familiar with your mixed breed so maybe the feet are a little different. Chows stand on their toes which is a little different than other dogs. I have a neighbor with 2 chihuahua's that she does not walk a...

Re: flea and tick medication

I have owned dogs for over 40 years and NEVER wanted a topical pesticide on any of my dogs. I hug and pet and kiss my dogs and I certainly do not want some topical pesticide on my hands and face. Anytime you pet your dog you have an insectcide on you. I had a flea problem with my Maggie May just rec...

Re: Disrespectful ?

I remember taking my chinabear's face in both my hands as she was dying on my living room floor and asking her "what am I going to do without you"? I had her for 16 yrs and let me tell you it was the hardest thing ever, the tears are welling up as I write this. It took me 13 hrs to dig a h...

OFF LEASH?? She would enjoy that so much because to her it's a game. Lets see how far away from daddy can we get in the shortest time. I have chased her one too many times to trust her off leash. I have a fenced playpen that wraps around the back and side of the house and the gate is 3 feet from our...

I have a dilemma

I firmly believe a dog should walk by your side. I have won ribbons in dog obedience in the past. My problem with Maggie is when I walk her in the afternoon in our development [it took awhile]she was starting to heel with me pretty good. BUT when I take her to the State Park I let her have her way c...

Yes thank you for the video, I missed seeing the first day and found the second day boring. All the chows looked to be from the same litter. I would have loved to see a black one but they were all beautiful.

Re: Question before buying Chow

All told I'm not sure you're ready for a chow or any other dog. Dogs need exercise, they need socialization and training. They need interaction and leadership from their owner, they need companionship. Having most dogs is like having a two year old human child. Having a chow is like having a three y...

ahh, when you said spikes I thought you were talking like those prong collars.. A trainer put one on Nikki when she was in training classes .. Just to demonstrate it and Nikki flipped out and so did I.. I never saw Nikki act like that and as soon as we got it off her with all her fur mangled in it,...

Re: Need some suggestions...

FORGET the martingale, bought one last week from a recommendation from one of our members and had to chase her because they must be adjusted after you get them on and readjusted to get them back off. All the dog has to do is take a couple of steps back and they are free. When I tie maggie up outside...

Re: Halti's - Give me Strength!

Thank you for the idea of the martingale collar, I purchased one on Sunday and it's the best so far. No chains to break the hair and you can control my little ants in the pants. The very next day On Monday she backed right out of it. At 70 yrs old I ran 1/4 of a mile to catch her, I take it back abo...

Re: Halti's - Give me Strength!

I bought Ceasar's illusion collar because the choke chains were breaking the hair around her neck. The only thing about ceasar's collar are too many buckles especially when she knows shes going for a walk and you need lots of light with a black collar and a black dog but it did help me control and m...

All so true but not only doorways but spread accross the narrow hallway. I had to put night lights up so I dont trip over her. How about with a full cup of coffee and she decides to get up just as you step over her. My right leg has gotten bigger trying to slide her away from the dbl door refrigerat...

My last vet in Florida who I have been friends with for over 30 yrs told me thats the best place to pick up diseases.
