Rescue Chows vs Breeder Chows

Farbeit from me to invite abuse, but there has been for some time a bit of a turf war here, and instead of encroaching on other people's threads, maybe it would be best if it was thrashed out in a thread of its own. This site is populated with owners of chows... some rescue chows, some breeder chows...

Tammy, you must learn to listen to Butters. He was probably telling you he wanted to go to the groomers, or visit his buddy the vet.

I miss the carefree happy days when all there was to worry about was the occasional food fight. Ah, nostalgia.

Re: New Chowlings .... 4 days old

OK, I've been drafted into service to remind everyone that there are young and tender eyes that frequent this board. If you can't keep your remarks civil, at least keep them clean. I for one, would prefer civility, or at the very least, starting your own thread separate from this one. Jeff, you are ...

I'm so happy you're OK, and that you will have an escort to work. Hope the police catch those cowards... three burly men ganging up on a defenseless woman? That's disgusting.

Pitching in my thoughts and prayers for a positive outcome. You are a fighter and a wonderful person, Sharon, and you have plenty of good karma bucks in your pocket. Life will get better. Stay strong and keep your fluffies close.

MontanaXman, have I told you lately how great you are?
Bear in mind that there is a restriction on transporting pets by air when the temps are too high. It's in the 90's here in TN today.

I'm raining on the parade. I know, I suck.

Re: Advice please - immediate foster situation

filly, that's so disappointing. :( It's astounding, but in a situation like this, the owner can have a completely unvetted pet that's matted to the skin, uncared for and neglected for years, ready to be kicked to the curb, and yet they still think that they are doing you a huge favor by letting you ...

I once (once!) tricked Sophie into eating a piece of dehydrated banana wrapped with chicken jerky... it floored me. Fresh fruit? Forget it, she's a carnivore!

Special looks like he doesn't quite know what to make of that mushy red play ball... so cute.

Uh oh, Conner and Onyx look like they're completely in love. Great pictures, they need to be framed. That, and sent to all the shelters that don't believe chows are adoptable.

Might be a good idea, too, to set up paypal accounts for sponsored rescues like Onyx and Berkeley (and Dog A when you get him.). Rescue is expensive, period... $5 and $10 donations can add up quick when everyone gets involved. No need for one person alone to bear the burden.

I talked to the helper lady today and told her I didn't really want to speak with the owners because I'm afraid I'll say something rude and they won't let me take him. So, I'm using her as a middleman Good, that frees you up emotionally, at least. Let someone else handle the "what a fabulous, lovin...

Re: Advice please - immediate foster situation

Phyllis, this is the hardest part... choking back disgust for the negligent owners and shamelessly petting and ego stroking them until they fork over the chow. In your case, I don't think you can count on them to do right by the dog in any way. I know how frustrating that is. If you can organize a t...

I'm starting to think Milly and Mabel (and Fred!) might be the innocent parties here. Any chance your garden has been the victim of random drive-by goatings? Those goat gangs can be sneaky.

"once a ferrel dog, always a ferrel dog." Nope. Take her out at least 3 times per week. Doesn't have to be for any length of time, just a quick walk thru at Petsmart will do fine. Be very brisk and matter of fact about it at first, then linger at the more interesting areas like the hamster cages an...
