Re: Getting to know someone in chow time

The groomer we took Buddha to was very good at reading him, and she did really well with him. She knew he only got upset when she tried to cut his nails or touch his feet, eventually we decided she didn't need to deal with his feet, and she had no problems. I ended up stopping taking him to her beca...

New B & W's of Buddha

I've been playing with my new camera and got some really awesome pics of Buddha that I made black and white (I LOVE black and white pics). Let me know what you think, I'm thinking of entering them in some amateur shows. Hopefully I can find someone that'll give me lessons soon! This is a series of t...

Re: meet and greet, Yoshi and Maxine

I'm glad things went well! Annie did the same thing to Buddha when they met, and did it several times afterwards, and Buddha reacted the exact same way.

minty treats?

I have had a problem with Buddha wanting to eat mints or anything else that is minty-ish...like Halls' cough drops. I try and make sure that everything is out of his reach, but the other day he got into some mints, and of course they made him sick, and then he almost got a Burts Bee's chapstick open...

Re: Chows at Westminister dog show

I do see your point, it's just not very pretty. :) However, Buddha rarely has a poopy butt, and if he does I get it cleaned up pretty quick. I was just surprised to see it, because no other groomer has done that.

I just took Buddha to a groomer and she groomed him like that...I HATE it! Poor guy, they trimmed his tail and everything right around there

Re: Getting to know someone in chow time

I always make sure the groomer is comfortable with using a muzzle on Buddha. He's a fear biter, and I'd rather have my baby muzzled for a little bit than have to put him to sleep and have a huge lawsuit on my hands. I hate to muzzle him, but I feel that I'm protecting him as much as I am the groomer.

Re: chows and the heat

They should do alright in AZ, I know it get's pretty hot, but usually it's the humidity that makes it so unbearable. My vet said dry heat was way easier on Chow's than humid heat.

We put a kiddie pool in the back yard for Buddha (not that he ever used it), and i know several other members do the same for their's.

Glad to hear things look ok! As for the graying I noticed that Annie (who is 8...give or take some) has gray around her snout as well.

I can't believe it, I have been following this from the beginning and had really hoped she'd make it. At least she was able to feel some love before she passed.

Re: Colorado Puppy Mills

I see your point Jeff, but I agree w/ Bama. I think it's awesome that people are becoming more aware of the crap that goes on with animals. I hope it isn't just a bandaid but the start of something huge.

Re: Annie

It's been a little over a week since Annie has been with her family, and she's SO HAPPY! After seeing how she reacts w/ men and w/ leashes we have come to the conclusion that there's a good chance she was abused with a leash by a man. We noticed when Jake tried to walk her with a leash she cowered i...

Re: Beneful vs Nutro

I have tried both, and I wasn't happy with the Beneful at all. Their stools were loose and soft and WAY bigger than with the Nutro. I've been very happy with the Nutro comparatively. When Annie was with us I saw a major difference in her coat and health when we put her on Nutro.

Re: Chow/malamute mix

Some of the people on here have problems with same *Censored Word* dogs, other's don't. I would think that your first meeting with them would tell you a lot. I'm sure there will be other's on here that can give your more advice though.

Re: Chewing on feet, on again and off again.

Could you work with him on going down the stairs? Like, specifically stopping him at each stair and rewarding him for stopping at them, and then moving on to the next, until he goes down them properly? Annie did that when she was with us (she's a senior chow) and Buddha does it all the time, and the...
