Congrats on the move and do look for the connection between ice water and bloat. There appears to be some evidence that ice can contribute to bloat.

Re: New Chow Owner
Welcome. The best advice I have on training is NILF (nothing in life is free). It will help you establish yourself as the boss and source of all good things. Otherwise your pup is likely to think he is in charge. Obedience class helped us but you have to find the right trainer, positive reinforcemen...

Re: Hello I am New Here
Of course you are welcome and bless you for fostering. I myself am a failed foster. Teddy was to be my foster chow, but alas, I am not strong enough to give up a chow. He was also shaved when he came to me: http://i239.photobucket.com/albums/ff216/chow_fancier/Heresteddy.jpg But he is now one fluffy...

Re: Pekoe passes...
With tears and sympathy I offer these words that have comforted me in the past: Last Night I stood by your bed last night; I came to have a peek. I could see that you were crying; you found it hard to sleep. I whined to you softly as you brushed away a tear, "It's me, I haven't left you, I'm we...

Re: In Remembrance of Alf (Layla's Alfonse)
I am so sorry to hear this. I have loved Alf from when I first saw the video of his litter on you tube, not even knowing who he was. He was full of life from the very beginning and touched my heart. I have tears running down my face as I type, and I never even met the little sweetheart in person. Ho...

Re: Mishka passed Canine Good Citizen Test
Hi Mishka, My mom made me take that darn test too. The being petted by strangers part was hard for me too (but in my case because the evaluator really was a stranger and I was not sure I wanted her to pet me). But I gave in cause mom said she would just have to practice by letting all kinds of stran...

Re: Chow Chow and Roommate
Erica, My first chow would growl at my husband daily when she was a pup. I was doing all the caregiving and he was an interloper as far as she was concerned. He started being responsible for her breakfast and taking her out afterwards. She stopped growling in a day or two. She just needed to underst...

How hard for both of you to lose a chow. You both have my upmost sympathies. Obedience class can be a wonderful opportunity for bonding as well as something Leela will learn to look forward too. Cinder loved "going to school." She still loves the extra attention and food whenever we "...

Re: Is she small?
There is quite a range of sizes for chows. I have had girls from 48lbs to 70lbs myself. I think Auddy's Lily is the smallest girl I've met. I would guess she is less than 40lbs.

Welcome! My Cinder was a stray too. (Cinder is short for Cinderella, so she is a princess too). It takes a special person (family) to adopt a chow. If the chow chooses you, you are a member of an elite group. You will be rewarded many times over with devotion and entertainment. You will also be test...
