Re: Sock thief!

I am amazed at these stories. My Loki has always acted like a grumpy old man. He wouldn't play with a thing!!
Believe me, I tried. He even has a chow companion and neither of them would ever think of playing.

Re: New to the group mom of chows for 18 years

People have such preconceived notions about chows it is hard to convince them otherwise. I was new to chows but then my son found a chow wondering the city streets who needed help badly. Ultimately the chow came to live with us and that was over 8 years ago. Even I was skeptical when our son rescued...

Re: CAN NOT KEEP YOGI

Please don't give up on him. We rescued our chow, Frisco, just days before he was to be put down. He had food aggression and fear of things with handles or sticks. You just never know what these dogs have gone through. The first week we had him we took him to the groomer. He bit the groomer. So much...

With time will come trust and you WILL make a difference. All of our dogs have been rescues and they have all presented challenges. Our two chows,Loki and Frisco each had issues. Frisco was food aggressive and Loki had trust issues. It took dedication but it was so worth it! We love them both and ca...

Re: Lady Phoenix - New To everything

First of all...what an adorable puppy! The portrait of the original Sandy is amazing. I have never had a chow puppy but now I am the proud owner of two Chow rescues. Both came to us about the age of two. I also had a number of breeds prior to the chows including a border collie. I must admit...chows...

Re: Big Baby

When our son first rescued Loki he had to carry him up three flights of stairs as he lived in a prewar walk up in NewYork. Loki required surgery on his hip. This is one of the reasons he came to live with us (that was nine years ago). To this day Loki HATES to be picked up. I am sure it is because o...

How embarrassing!!!

On Fathers Day we had a few people for dinner. We ate on the screened in porch (where the dogs hang out) and I set a little serving table next to the dinner table to hold a few dishes...including my homemade blue cheese dressing. Out of nowhere Loki comes to the table, sticks his head in the silver ...

Wish I could get my Loki on my lap!!! Enjoy the attention. Loki used to greet me enthusiastically at the door with lots of kisses. Now he is hard of hearing and often is fast asleep when I get home.

Re: Does Your Chow "Hunt"?

Our chow Loki will go after ANYTHING that moves. Rabbits, squirrels and, heaven forbid, cats! I have never had a dog with such a strong prey drive. We never let him out unless he is leashed. Our other chow, Frisco, doesn't care one bit about chasing anything except his dinner bowl. This all makes ou...

Re: New Chow Chow puppy!

No worries!!! Relax...first of all...he is precious. Does he have a name? Chows are very easy to housebreak. Introducing him to a variety of people is a good idea. We got our red chow, Loki, as a rescue when he was two. It didn't take him long to connect to the family. I will admit they often pick o...

Our black chow Frisco was surrendered because of "aggression". Our vet rescued him a day before he was to be put down. She was attempting to find a no kill shelter for him when I came into the picture. She asked if I would foster him until she found him a place. His aggression was food rel...

I am glad the Vet was patient with him. Bless you for giving him such a good home after a sad beginning. He will slowly begin to trust. It is important that he get his shots. Our one rescued chow had been abused and it took a little while for him to feel comfortable with us. That was almost seven ye...

Re: yogi

Poor Yogi must have been so frightened. It appears he was never socialized as a puppy. I certainly don't like the idea of giving your chow tranquilizers. Chows take some time to become familiar with their new surroundings. Be patient. Give him some time to adjust. Are you comfortable with this vet? ...

Be patient...he will come around. When we rescued Frisco he was in bad need of grooming. He didn't show any aggression until we took him to the groomer the first week we had him. He bit the groomer!! Re: Considering a Chow- asking for advice :-)

We have two chow rescues. Both were about the age of two when they were rescued. It is interesting as Loki was our first chow and he got along with our one male cat but not the other female cat. I could never quite understand other than our one cat stood up to Loki whereas the other cat run away whe...
