Re: Alopecia and Homeopathy
Thank you so very much for all the info. I am very happy to hear that your Chow is on the mend. I will keep homeopathy in mind for CCL (if it happens). My vet did put him on a homeopathic remedy. His hair is growing back and his abscesses that he has had between his toes (for 4 years) have healed an...

Alopecia and Homeopathy
My 5 year old Chow has been diagnosed with Alopecia. Melatonin and Lignan supplements stopped the hair loss for a while (1-2 years), but it is getting worse now. I read an article about homeopathy working for their Chow. Does anyone have experience with any alternative therapies that help with this ...

Dew Claws
Yesterday, my 2 year old Chow somehow ripped off his dewclaw nail (the entire nail is gone). He doesn't act like he is in pain at all. He doesn't act like anything has happened at all. The only way I found out was all the blood in the house!! I have it all bandaged up. Had to use cornstarch to stop ...

Why Did He Do This?
My Chow is just over 1 years old. He is toilet trained to go outside. He does not have accidents at home. One morning about 1 month ago, something weird happened and I want to know why he did this. First thing in the morning, I sent him out to pee. I let him in about a half hour later. I was in the ...

Pet Insurance?
Just got my new puppy. Trying to decide if I should get pet insurance. The breeder registered the pup for a six week trial with Petsecure. I am having trouble deciding if I should continue and if so, what level (4 levels of coverage offered).

Re: URGENT Chow ate cooked bone throwing up
I would hate to do nothing and regret it later. Remember that dogs don't always show pain and can't let you know that they have a tummy ache (until it's too late sometimes). I have always heard that one should NEVER feed cooked bones of any type to a dog. They could perforate something and this coul...

Re: Butters and the Yogurt
They are so smart. That reminds me of the time I bought a fruit flan. I didn't realize that Safeway did not use real cream in their icings/toppings. The Chows did and refused to have any!

So Cute! Would love to see more pictures! I get my Chowling Feb 15th. Is this your first Chow? Did you get him a "Dog Bed" ? I am trying to decide if I should get this one a bed. He will be my 4th Chow Chow.

Re: Dog Beds?
Thank you all for the replies. I am getting the impression that Chows' generally do not want a dog bed. Maybe they find the beds too warm? I have carpet in most of the house and I know that I would often have the dogs come up from the unfinished basement in the morning.

Dog Beds?
I have never owned a "dog bed" for my Chows. My previous Chows always just slept on the floors (carpet or tile or basement floor). They had the run of the house, so they just slept where ever they wanted to. I will be getting a new puppy next week and was wondering what most other people d...

Re: Male vs Female Chow
Thank you all for the very interesting responses! I enjoyed and value all the different opinions. I decided to get the male. It was a tough decision. I know that every dog will have his/her own personality and how one raises them will influence behaviors also...but...my sister has a female (although...

So sorry to hear about your horrible experience. I am always fearful of that happening to me on the roads. Hope the rest of your year is happier!
