90 Dogs Seized From Lancaster County Home

Has anyone seen this yet? How horrible! They just Seized 190+ dogs from a "supposed" rescue here by me. It took a long time but finally! The ASPCA and the Humane Society of the United States are both involved in that one.

Re: Coughing after drinking

I did read the article and Oshie has an appt on Thursday with our vet. I did talk with her last night and she recommended that we elevate his water bowl. I was hesitant to do this as there has been much debate on whethering elevating can cause bloat. She told me nothing has been proven so I did elev...

Coughing after drinking

Does anyone's chow cough after drinking water? Oshie will gag from time to time also but now has started to actually cough even when drinking a little bit of water.

Re: Seizures

Hi, I just had to post an update as to what we have gone through since we first started dealing with Oshie's seizures. We did find out that what he was having was localized seizures. It only affects his hind quarters and he doesn't have the drooling, panting, or any of the other symtoms. They put hi...

Re: Seizures

He does not have any other health issues that I am aware of. He does not snore but does seem to breath heavier, even at rest. The only other issue I have had with him is when I gave him interceptor. He had a reaction to that which was similiar to a dog "before" they would go into a seizure...

Re: Seizures

Just out of curiosity Kiwani, have you ever heard of any problems with using wet swiffers on your floor as far as chemicals? I have asked my vet and she didn't seem to think it would create a problem. I've never noticed any issues with my other dogs but thought maybe Oshie is more sensitive to it?

Re: Seizures

Well, the xray's showed nothing. He has very good hips. That's a relief but we still do not know what is causing it since it so centrally located. We are going to wait until he has another one and try to tape it. We were also referred to the UW vet school for an observation from a Neurologist.

Seizures

I have a chow boy that is about 1-1/2 years old. He started having this spells where his back end would get all tensed up and he would loose control. It started last fall and i mentioned it to our vet right away. He has had several of them now and the vet said that we may not know what is causing th...

A distributor to me that Merrick used to produce Solid Gold and when the food recall occured, Merrick started selling more of their own food and therefore Solid Gold was produced after their own. So Solid Gold decided to move their product to a different producer and it's just the lag in between the...

Replacement for Solid Gold

I have been feeding my dogs the Solid Gold kibble along with a little canned to mix in. I cannot find Solid Gold canned any more. It seems as though they have had a production issue and can't meet the demand. Does anyone have a recommendation for another brand of canned?

Just wanted to update my original post. I spoke with my vet and it was a reaction to Interceptor. She looked up the symtoms of a reaction and it was very similiar to the way he was acting. He was showing symtoms of a dog that was either going into or coming out of a seizure and could have had a seiz...

No, I use Frontline. They treated him for whipworms on Thursday but I didn't give him the interceptor until Monday of the following week. I'm really wondering if there was a reaction between those two things. The ER Vet Tech told me there shouldn't have been a problem with the time frame at all. He'...

Reaction to Interceptor

Has anyone had a Chow that has had a reaction to the heartworm medicine Interceptor? I did some research on it and it appears that Collies are sensitive to it. Oshie has been acting very strange since I put him on it. A vet tech told me that it could be a reaction to it and we will have to give him ...

My little guy ended up with entropian. My vet told me that it is something that can develop as a puppy gets older that does not show up in the parents even though it is genetic. I had his eye tacked three times before we actually did the surgery. He was about 10 months old when we did the surgery an...

Jules, I did try the coins in a plastic container. It works. Our chow now knows when you shake that can to immediately get away from the cat. He doesn't like the noise and the cat doesn't usually run either. It does actually help. I'm not sure that my chow would hurt our cat, but did find a chipmunk...

This is a very good question. We have a chowling who is turning 11 months old. We have had him since he was 3 months. He chases our cat as well. The cat will try to be brave and walk through the area where the dog is, because we also use baby gates, and if Oshie isn't chasing him, he will walk next ...

I am so sorry to hear about your son. My son was bitten when he was 15 by our dog. It was our Basset Hound though and not one of the Chows. They were playing and it was definitely an accident. I had to take him to the ER and it went through the top and bottom lip. They actually had to call in a cosm...

We are switching insurance right now also. I did find that Auto Owners will cover Chows. I have seen several articles lately where cities are actually trying to ban certain breeds. And, of course, chows are on that list. I saw an article where someone Minnesota is trying to do something like that?

Microchip?

I'm thinking about getting Oshie micro-chipped. Just wondering what everyone thinks about having this done. I am torn and find myself going back and forth on whether to have it done. He has tags but I also understand he could lose them if he ever got loose. I also understand from our vet tech that m...
