Re: HGE Recovery period
Thanks so much for the info and sites. I've been reading as much as I can about it and most sites only indicate a 10-15% chance of recurrence while neglecting to mention that it can be a chronic condition. I discovered that thrOgh another online BB for dogs in general. It will be well worth keeping ...

Re: HGE Recovery period
Sorry about that - That's what the vet called it. I had to look it up on the internet myself to find out what it stands for just now - Hemmoraghic Gastric Enteritis... Brandy didn't poop at all yesterday, but started acting more like herself - ever so subtle changes - just that she would look at me ...

Re: Adoption?? Opinions please?
Brandy was in a rescue with other dogs for 7 months before I got her. Prior to that she had been an "owner turn in" at a kill shelter, with no other info available. I was told she got along fine with the other dogs, but when I brought her home, she snarled and growled at every other dog sh...

HGE Recovery period
Brandy, my 7 year old female chow, was diagnosed and treated for HGE Sunday and Monday (ER Animal Hospital sunday until Monday, then spent the day at the regular vet, getting IV fluids and antibiotics until her pvc was down within normal range and she had pooped). The ER vet found two hookworm ova a...

Re: Vote for Brandy!
The easiest way to do a search for her is by clicking on most votes - you still have to go through a lot of pages, but she's up to page 15 (possibly 14 whenever they recalculate the votes). There are some real cuties on there and if I weren't voting for my own baby,I'd have a hard time making a deci...

Re: Vote for Brandy!
She's on page 25 right now with 36 votes, and I've just had more friends vote for her soshe should be up to about 60 votes tomorrow or whenever they next tabulate it, which, hopefully, will move her up some more! Ms. Brandy was a VERY good Chow ambassador today - she met a friendly cat and they nose...

Vote for Brandy!
I think she's the only Chow on the site right now! It's greenies.com, vote for the best smile. At this moment she's on page 38 if you click on most votes (we'll NEVER catch up, but at least people will see there are cute chows out there!) It's not her best picture and not the best picture of her smi...

Re: The most common traits of Chows?
Oh Brandy does the boneless thing Teddy does, too! When we're out walking and she decides she doesn't want to go where I do (usually when I'm trying to go back home because I have to go to work and we've already been out for 30 minutes at least!) First, she'll dig her front paws in the ground, brace...

Re: Chow play
Brandy whines - for everything! It's her way of communicating. Usually it means she wants to go out, but lately it's also been - I want mommy and me time! come play with me! I'll get down on the floor with her and she'll put her head down on it's side, do a play bow with her butt up in the air, then...

Brandy does it all the time. Can't remember if Honey did or not; Ralph definitely did! Don't think they're crazy - just letting the other dogs in the neighborhood know this is 'their" territory!

Re: How do you know when "it's time"?
Ralphie died two years ago yesterday. He was 14.5 years old, he had arthritis and canine dementia. He was living with my ex-b/f because he couldn't make it up and down steps, and I used to be there every weekend from Friday night til Monday morning. When we split up, I tried to take Ralphie with me,...

Re: Guess who went to see Santa??
Brandy here - thanx! I get my belly rubs every night (or day) - mom was on the phone last night and I went in and got her (she thought I wanted to go for a walk) but when she went to the door, I stayed in the living room until she came back, then I laid down and rolled over on my back. She got the m...

They are so sweet, aren't they? My Honey used to look like she'd rather take a beating than get dressed up - she'd always go along with her mom's crazy ideas, but she'd look like a poster child for the ASPCA. Ralphie, on the other hand, looked like he thought he was cool beans! http://i134.photobuck...

Re: Keiko has to have surgery
I'm so sorry to hear about Keiko's surgery. I haven't had to have any of my dogs operated on, but Honey had parvo when I found her, and I agonized over her recovery (which was actually short and uneventful!) and I had only had her 3 days at the time. She went on to live 15 more years. I will keep yo...

Re: Mommie says I suicidal
I haven't had any problems like that since I moved in with my mommy, but she tells me my older sister, who weighed about 43 pounds, jumped a German Shepard who was trying to give HER brother (who weighed about 70 pounds), a hard time. There was no way that she was going to let some ole GSD mess with...

Brandy's best trick is the ignore you trick, but she also knows sit, down, paw/shake, speak, play dead (lays on her side with her head flat on the ground), and roll over. Her newest trick (that she has taught herself) is time out for ME - when she's mad at me about something if I talk to her, she wi...

Oh, Steel! You ARE my hero! I've given up on skirrelz - they run up the trees and mom pulls me back, but I hadnt thought about the high wire act .... I'll have to have a look around and see if I can chase one to a high wire, too!

Re: Behaviour Issues: Nipping and leaping
I rescued Brandy last February, when she was 4.5 years old. She gets very still, and a glazed look to her eyes just before she goes into zoomie mode, and when she goes into zoomie mode, she nips at my pants, feet, hands, arms, anything she can get at. My two former chow babies never did that - but p...
