Re: signs that our chow is pregnant

UPDATE First, a correction on her age, she is 11 years old. The vet says she has a canine STD which she got from a neighbor's dog when she escaped one day. I didn't know that dogs could get STDs. #-o The pain and whimpering was caused by the STD spreading through the pelvic area. The vet says that ...

signs that our chow is pregnant

About a month ago our chow (now 13 years)escaped from our yard and was seen by a neighbor that their dog was in heat with our dog. A few days ago our chow was heard crying and whimpering, she couldn't get up. She tried to bite if touched in the hind area. We thought that it might be the way she sits...

can food & allergies

Our chow has skin allergies and we recently learned that the preservatives in canned food has contributed to her skin problems. I also learned that there was a show on the 'Green' TV channel that talked about the main ingredients in dog food is rice and carrots. The preservatives is what can cause a...

2 chows in a pod

Hello, We have a 5 year old all black female chow and we are thinking about adopting another female dark grey chow. The history of our chow is that she doesn't get along too well with the other dogs, that are not chows in the neighborhood that are mainly female. The 1 male she doesn't react, actuall...

Re: chow skin condition is driving her crazy

To answer Zhuyos mom's question about the mosquitoes, we live on St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. We have mosquitoes year round. When the hair has fallen off the mosquitoes bite her skin and when the skin condition first started, we had thought it might be the mosquito bites that were making her scr...

Re: chow skin condition is driving her crazy

The food we give her is Science Diet. We do give her some table scraps like meat scraps, chicken scraps, pedigree wet dog food cans. There aren't any cleaning stuff either or rug shampoos that would affect it.

Re: chow skin condition is driving her crazy

Our chow has gone through all the shots by the vet and I've never heard of a dermatological vet. We feed her a special food that is for sensitive skin. We've done all the blood work too and still she gets this problem. We were also told that mosquitoes and fleas could be the problem also. =; To clar...

chow skin condition is driving her crazy

Hi, We have an all black chow that is going on 5 years old. Every years she gets this skin condition where the hair falls out. Mainly from the front shoulders to the tail. This year she actually has lost hair from her upper body to her head. We've tried everything from vet. visits for shots to chang...

what's for dinner?

To follow up with a question about our dog's diet. Our dog's hair loss, we think, is contributed to her eating our cat's dry food and our food scraps. We are curious what would be the recommended dry or wet dog food to feed our dog Omega to get her hair to grow back. Her skin is looking terrible. Th...

shedding or hot spots (it's a mystery) UPDATE

We also give the dog a bath because she starts to smell bad after a couple few weeks. That seems to keep her from smelling.
For that matter, is the smells that she gives off normal?

shedding or hot spots (its a mystery)

We have a 3 year old all black chow and we are getting increasingly frustrated each season with our dog's shedding problem. We can't differentiate between whether she has hot spots or its a shedding thing. We bath her every Saturday with Eqyss brand shampoo and dry her with a hairdryer. We also live...
