Re: Do you have a doggy door?
We have always had one and Leela has had absolutely no issues. It's a godsend! Even our peke/pom will use it. We put one in the wall upstairs so we could make it tighter for the winter and it works great.

Re: hip surgery
Thanks so much for your post! Leela has trouble getting up now...especially on slick surfaces. But she loves her walks, does not limp, and doesn't even LIKE to run, but does sometimes. She sits sidesaddle and hates to just sit or just sand, preferring to lay down, mostly on one side. Good to know yo...

hip surgery
I'm not on here much any more for several reasons. But Leela just had her hips xrayed again and they tell us they are super bad. Nothing is even really in the joint at all. Starting her on Hills JD. The vet who did her vulvaplasty explained the two types of hip surgery. Leela is 5.5 years. Very heal...

Re: When to let your pet go when health is declining rapidly
I went through a very similar challenge last year with my 16 yr old lab/springer mix who was my total heart and soul from 8 wks old. Through the death of a husband, brother, parents, etc...she was my guiding light and totally dedicated to me and only me. I loved her beyond love. When she couldn't ea...

Leela bit my Pom BIG TIME
Of course, I was away on a girl weekend. Get home Friday night and all seems well. Sunday morning..there it is. Abcess. Then I hear that there was a little kitchen skirmish. Uh huh. Monday morning. Vet says it's very deep and needs surgery AND a tube all the way through. Poor little guy has stitches...

Re: Strange changes in Chow
Missy, No, not the rectum area, but the urethra/vaginal area. Vet does not think it is related to *Censored Word* glands. I just put her back on Solid Gold and she is eating. Also, she has let me brush her twice in the last three days. Hmmmmm.....I know my stress level has been down. Perhaps she was...

Strange changes in Chow
I posted before about Leela's itchy tush, and Juniper was a help. But there is more to this saga. When her buddy (and my lab of 16 years) died here at home, she grieved tremendously. We started in a training class and she LOVED it. Then, several months ago she stopped letting me groom her. Now I hav...

Juniper It sounds like Leela has the same issue!!!! Wow. Yes she rocks on her tush with her head pointed up. The same thing. I did start her on cranberry...what strength are the ones you give? I give her two a day right now. I was wondering about what kind of food you use? Could that make a differen...

MOODS?
So not all of a sudden Leela doesn't want me to groom her. I have taken her like twice a year to a groomer, otherwise done it myself. Since last summer, when Caity died...she has been refusing the comb brush furminator...it don't matter...she runs when I pick it up. Or anyone picks it up. Seems she ...

Re: Eagle Pack or Innova
I have had Leela on Eagle Pack (the anchovy/sardine) almost since I got her and she still loves dinner time. I sometimes mix in a little of the canned Eagle for a treat as well. And I always warm up the kibble with a little bit of warm water to bring out the odors. I know my vet thinks that Eagle is...

Leela has arthritis in her hips, and we give her a shot of adequan once a month. It really helps, plus she is on Glycoflex III.

Hi, I haven't been here for a long time...for one reason or another. Now it's snowing so it's nesting time and here I am with Leela at my feet. And I have a question. Leela licks her pp area a lot. Sometimes it looks like she is trying to scratch it on the floor....not the scoot that dogs sometimes ...

Re: chow baggage
I was just going to post about Leela's success, when I came upon this post. Fortunately, there are trainers who appreciate the breed. I stumbled upon our trainer by talking to someone in the waiting room at the vet's office--my vet is very well trained by chows :D . The trainer I found actually grew...

Re: Why did you get a chow?
I grew up on a big farm in KY and we always had all kinds of animals...for dogs there was a hound, then a collie, then a skipperke. And then my first husband and I had cats, but always longed for dogs. When we finally could afford a house with a fenced yard, we got Rufus the weekend after we moved i...

wolf king 4 lb bags?
I'd like to try Leela on wolf king, Solid gold, but I don't want to buy 15 pounds to start out with. And shipping is twice as much as the 4 lb bag. Anyone know of free shipping for a trial?

Gods speed our little chowling. You are AMAZING. Your Chow is AMAZING. What a happy, wonderful personality shines through that little guy. After caring for my Caitlyn for over a year in good and bad, I know some of what you go through. Love knows no genre. My pups are my kids and I know how that feels when one is so very ill. Pray...

Leela started training classes
She went through a simple class when we first got her, with my hubby. But since he does nothing for her, and since her adoptive mom Caityln went to the bridge, she and I decided we are going to go for CGC. So we have begun. Class number three tonight and the only issue we have is that she wants to j...
