Re: First sign of Aggression?

Don't want to be argumentative, but I bugged my chow when he ate when he was younger. I would put my my hand in his food and tug on his ears and tail (just as a child would likely do). My chow is over 2 years old now and isn't the least bit possessive with food. He has never growled at anyone when t...

To post a photo from any site, just right click on the photo and click view image. Then copy the URL(this will make sure the URL only contains the link to the image and not the whole page). Then paste the URL inside the brackets as such. (do this without the space after "img") URL[/img ] T...

Re: hair loss

It sounds like there isn't anything wrong. When chows shed, it tends to come down in tuffs like that. As stated, the hair on their rears tends to be a bit more dry and course because they sit on it a lot. I actually have lots of fun picking out the tuffs of fur from Saja when he sheds. I could do it...

Re: question on Chow activity level?

ha! I'm glad Saja isn't the only one that does "zoomies"! Sometimes he will sprint back and forth for like 5 minutes, then once he is satisfied just plop right back down on the floor.

Re: Saja! the cutest ever!... at least to me

Thanks everyone! Saja has grown into a very handsome Chow-boy...is the other dog the same little doggie from the picture of Saja and a puppy under the table? No, sadly Sia died about 2 weeks after that picture was taken from a piece of Saja's chew bone which I believe lacerated her esophagus. It was...

Re: ROMEO JUST WONT LISTEN

Hey Valerie, My chow, Saja, can be quite stubborn as well. Do you give Romeo "people food" often? For a while, whenever we were eating, we would keep Saja in another room or sectioned off to a different part of the room and would never give him tables scraps. We also won't give him pieces ...

Re: itchy scratchy lion

Bathing him too much will irritate his skin. I wouldn't bathe him anymore than once a month unless he REALLY needs it. I only give my chow a bath once every two months on average.

It's been a while since I've posted, and as I am currently in Iraq, my wife sent me some pictures of my babies to make me feel better. I thought I'd share my newest pictures of Saja :)

Re: Traveling with a chow

My chow didn't like it at first, but now he loves the car. If I open the hatch on my escape he will try and jump in (poor guy can't jump that high though and ends up just running into the bumper). I say take him with you, he will be glad to be with his family rather than at home alone.

Re: Rolling Over for Grooming

Mine takes a bit of man-handling to get him to roll onto his back. I usually get him to lay down then I make him roll over and hold him there while I brush him. He's not happy about it, but it gets the job done. (I used to roll him on his back to keep him from getting dominant when he was younger, s...

76 pounds- too heavy?

Saja is 16 months old, last week when he was put on the scale, he weighed a whopping 76 lbs. Everything I have read before said chows get anywhere from 50-70. Might he be too fat? My border collie also seems a bit skinny (though I'm not sure how thick there are supposed to be.), so I'm wondering if ...

Re: florida summer is comming

I live in savannah, GA and my chow, Saja, got through his first summer fine. Do not take him outside during the hot ours of the day. Best idea is to take him outside at dusk when it has cooled down a bit, and bring water with you. My wife and I have a water bottle with a bowl type thing you can deta...

Odd patch of fur on back

Saja has course, long fur on his back that sticks out from the rest and looks kind of awkward. It started as a small patch as he was growing up, and now it has taken over most of the top half of his back. Does anyone else's chow have this? I am thinking about taking him into the groomers and seeing ...

Can't take off leash

So, our border collie, if we take her off of her leash, she is more than happy to stay in the immediate area with us.. she doesn't run off. however, the moment we take our chow chow off leash, he bolts for it. We keep trying every once and a while, and every times it ends with me having to chase him...

Re: help! my chowchow has curly hair under his chin

I have a similar problem with my chow. The bottom of his mane will never dry. My wife and I tried wiping it off after he drank, but we saw our efforts were futile after about a day or two of trying to do that. Is there any way to keep his mane dry when he drinks?

Saja! the cutest ever!... at least to me

This is our baby, Saja. (which means Lion in Korean). He is now 10 months old, and these pictures show him growing up! There are many more, and probably cuter ones, but I can't find them at the moment. http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/y251/xwonderbreadx/DSC03797.jpg http://i7.photobucket.com/albums/...
