Re: Colonel in the snow
I think Colonel might enjoy a visit with Ty in the great white north (not Canada but Erie, Pa is right across the Lake from there). We have 125 inches of snow and counting and it's not even February. Ty would also show him the secret spots where the rabbits hide in the snow. http://i74.photobucket.c...

Trouble in Paradiise
It's been a while since I've been here and all is not well. Nala had her second fibrocartilaginous embollism (spinal stroke) and at 14 she is not nearly as strong as she was when she had her first one at 8. She's had a long hard recovery and with the help of a hot tub, a life vest with a handle (so ...

My chow-lab mix has always been more chow like than lab but she looks just like a big shiba inu. She never wanted to retrieve, was aloof but not shy, stubborn and wouldn't take anything that was unfair, rude or aggressive (from people or dogs). She was the most independent dog I ever met and was es ...

I'm sorry for what Sullivan is going through. My older chow-lab mix just had her second fibrocartilaginous embolism (spinal stroke) and was put on tramadol. This works really well for her. She was on deramaxx after her first one and it also helped with walking and pain but it had some bad side effec...

Ty met his match!!!
I went to New Jersey to visit family and stopped at the Delaware Water Gap with Ty. We encountered a small (about 150 lb.) Black Bear which Ty immediately chased into the thickets and way out of sight. He came back with a big grin and his purple tongue floundering out of the outside of his mouth thi...

What I suggest you do is take the dog for a long walk and follow the dog where it leads - you can even take one of your dogs that this dog likes the most with you. Ty has taken off to go hang out with dogs before on our off-leash walks but he will only stay for about 10 minutes (although if they had...

How to get a chow to listen - 2 very simple rules: 1. If you want him to do something, encourage him very strongly not to do the thing you want him to do. 2. If you don't want him to do something, try to get him to do the thing you don't want him to do (do this before he gets the idea that this is a...

I, Ty do not follow possum rules and I lift my leg to your letter. However, to make the game funner I give you advice - do not play dead - the last possum that played dead with me is still playing. The man I own is much to slow to stop me from hunting you down. Fight like the good ugly little rat th...

I first heard the sound in the middle of the winter, at night with a bunch of snow on the ground after Ty took off into the deeper section of the woods on a scent. It sounded like a horrible cry in the night. I thought he was getting torn up by raccoons but he came back 20 minutes later with a huge ...

Ty - the sheriff with the "peacemaker".
Ty played the role of protecter and peacemaker yesterday. I took a neighbor's dog (a golden retriever) with Ty on our daily walk through the wooded park I go to most days. Ty was off in the woods (hunting squirrels, rabbits - or whatever moves that isn't canine or human). I was with the neighbor's g...

outfoxed
Ty chased a fox this spring - we were hiking in are large wooded area going up a mountain when I saw Ty's nose to the ground and then in the air (he smells prey way before I see them). We walked over the hill and caught the fox by surprise (the wind was blowing toward us so Ty caught his scent befor...

Your pup should let you know when he's tired - he'll slow down, stop, not be as active etc. In time he will easily out-walk you. I do at least 4-5 miles every day (2 hrs. minimum) and being that he's off-leash and often leaves on adventures and then returns he probably doubles my distance. Like peop...

Ty and Nala are off-leash most of the time (although Nala is now almost 13 and couldn't run away if she wanted too). They both had free reign except in residential areas. Nala would hardly ever walk with me when she was younger but I could call her and she'd be at my side in a minute or two. Ty is g...

I think she'll be fine but she won't forget that dog and she may be submissive with the dog that attacked her if they meet but once she get's a little older, she will defend herself (a mild way of putting it). I think it's very important that you take her to meet some dogs (maybe at a reputable dog ...

Conner - I have both an older chow-lab mix (12 yr. old female) and a younger chow-golden mix (3 yr. old male). It is very difficult to say what type of personality your dog will have. I don't know if you've done this yet but you might try taking them for a couple of long walks together. You and you're husband could walk them togther but keep Bailey seperate from Cinnamin at first if he is scared. I would take them to a place where there are a lot of things to keep them occupied (...

Ty found heron dead in water
Went down to the spot where I saw the heron with Ty and we found it. Ty was sniffing the air by the inlet of water that runs out into the lake and it was lying dead in the water toward the end of the inlet that was already almost frozen. When Ty came upon it two days ago they just stood and stared a...
